Is this a good or bad way to learn (experiment with) macro photography? Reason I ask is I already have it so no additional dollars.

Also if anyone has a PDF manual for this could you sent it to me please?

Thanks
Dan

I asked this same question awhile back. It's not a real macro, reach is a bit long on a crop so you can get pseudo-like-macro shots but if you're into macro you're better off getting a 100mm f/2.8 Macro.

Throw some tubes on there and have fun. It'll work just fine - just don't go too crazy with the tubes on the wide end or you'll have almost no working distance.

It's pretty poor for macro. A good cheap way of shooting macro is to look on ebay for the cheap (£5) macro tubes, an old, cheap 50mm lens with manual aperture ring (I have an old pentax 50mm f1.7 lens) and a converter plate to mount the pentax lens on the canon mount. I got all the above for under £20 and with my 430ex flash they have produced some very nice shots.
