Well, I tried some substitute ink with Canon Photo Glossy Paper. It worked great. I haven't printed a picture in months. I happen to try a different type of photo paper and i got lines..?..this happen before on an alternate 4x6 paper..so i got some more Canon Photo Glossy paper and there are still lines..I tried all the cleaning, Deep Cleaning, alignment options on my printer settings and they won't go away?...Anyone seen lines like this? or know what it is caused by?.. If not, does anyone know a printer forum i can ask? I know..it's probably from the substitute ink..my last hope is buy all new canon ink cart.($12/each) and try to see if that will fix it!

problem solved..
I unpluged the USB cable and unpluged it for 30mins..no more lines, but the colors were coming out green? what makes green?..yellow and blue. I just changed a blue cart. but the canon type was still in for the yellow. I switched the yellow with the genric brand and the pictures work great.

Do you know how to get the printer to print a test grid? If not, here is how. Make sure you have some plain paper loaded in the paper tray, press and hold the "resume" button until the power light flashes back on for the second time, then release the button (if you release on the first flash it will start a print head cleaning). This will print a test grid that shows whether or not the print head is functioning properly. The page should have six grids two across and three down at the top of the page. A good test grid will have all lines sharp and no missing sections in the grids. Upper left is black, upper right is cyan, center left is magenta, center right is yellow, lower left is photo cyan and lower right is photo magenta. If you have missing sections or lines in any of the grids the output quality will suffer. If you have a complete grid missing that color is not getting through the print head at all and the output color will be way off, as in the green look you are getting. I suspect that you have a problem with either your cyan or photo cyan (most likely cyan as that seems to be the hardest color to keep working). If you have missing lines in the grids or a missing color, figure out which color is the problem and remove only that ink tank, make sure there is ink in it and (this can be messy!) hold it over a waste basket that you don't mind the color changing on and cover the vent on TOP of the cartridge (on the end the ink comes out of) with one finger and then squeeze the sides of the tank to force some ink through the ink outlet on the bottom. One drop is sufficient. Put the ink tank back in and try to print the test grid again. The printer should do an automatic print head clean before it prints the test grid. If the grids are still not good keep printing them until they get good. Don't do any more print head cleanings then you absolutely have to as there is a waste tank in these printers that once it's full it has to go to a Canon repair facility to get changed and the memory re-set (however I've seen some other forums where there is instructions on resetting it yourself). I've found that printing the test grids is the best solution and it doesn't fill up the waste tank. It is critical to print something with these printers every week or two as the print heads seem to clog from non-use. If you can’t get the printer to output properly again, before you go and spend $72.00 on a set of Canon ink that probably won’t fix the problem anyway, try to find a refurbished Canon S900 printer for sale. I’ve found them online for as little as $79.00 and the have the very same print head in them and should come with the new set on ink tanks along with a new print head (and a warranty!). Good luck.

I had this problem , of banding on prints, and after googling for hours, I found a remedy, in that I took the print head out of the S9000, and ran it under tap water for 20 minutes, and then left it to soak overnight.(in water)
After allowing it to dry completely, the banding cleared, so I'm assuming a clogged head.
It worked for me, but not for others, and I must admit nervous about doing it.
I've also read about soaking the print head in alcohol, and forcing water through the individual print nozzles, which I've not tried.

When this happened to my S9000 after two months of being idle, the Canon tech support suggested taking the print head out, and then reseating it.
Solved the problem right away. I don't even want to think about how much ink I wasted doing "deep cleaning" cycles which didn't help at all.

Just wondering how unplugging the USB cable & unplugging the printer and then waiting 1/2 hour before plugging them back in can solve the problem with the lines.
Anyone?

Hello,
Saturday evening I was printing a group of photos with my Canon S9000, all 13" x 19". Before starting I always print a test grid just to verify that the print head is working properly and it was. So, I started printing and the first three printed perfectly. The fourth one started coming out completely gray/brown coloring (no cyan, red and yellow=brown). I stopped the printing and did another test grid and low and behold I was getting absolutely no cyan or photo cyan? I checked the ink tanks and both were over ½ full. So, I tried the "remove print head and re-seat it" and then printed another test grid and all was better! I restarted the printing project and printed the remaining five photos without a hitch (except a photo magenta tank had to be changed). I don't know what the cause/reason for this but that will be the first thing I try from now on when I have a problem that occurs in the middle of a print project.

I refilled all the MegaToners cartridges on my S9000 several times a week ago, the ink seemed to run out very quickly, and now I'm getting 8 flashes- the ink waste tank is full. How do I empty it? Please don't use internet abbreviations if meaning is critical (I probably won't understand it).

I'm not real sure as to the procedure to empty the waste tank. My S-9000 has
had the waste tank replaced by a Canon dealer once and since I have learned
of this waste tank filling I have started using the printing of the nozzle
test grid a lot more and the cleaning of the print head less. The print head
nozzle check grid seems to clean and also verify that the print head is
working properly and also doesn't fill the waste tank. I have seen on other
forum sites some instructions as to the resetting the waste tank memory on
Canon printers but am at a loss for the specifics myself. You can go to

suggestions. I can't tell you if any of their procedures actually work since
I have never used them myself.

I have no idea but it works!!!! It solved my headache. Without any reason, my Canon S520 has broken and missing lines. I thought it's time to discard it but after reading the solution provided here, it works. Though it's a different model but the method still works. Thank you so much Big D!
