Next time I'm bringing some hip waders. I tried to get out into the stream to get a better angle on the bridge and mountain, but slipped and splashed my foot into 6 inches of water, twisting my knee in the process. That water - mountain run-off - was **cold** and it remained cold for the next 4 hours until I got home.
The real bummer was the "island" in the middle of the stream - a mere 2 steps if I felt like dunking the other foot, too. I decided to try to stay dry.

Did I mention that the water was cold?

Another great couple of shots. I really like #1.
The best part is, you slipped and twisted your knee, but you had the presense of mind to keep the camera above water. That's the silver lining on that cloud.

Great shots, I like the 1st one but the second has some great DOF.
I have found that plastic grocery bags and thick rubber bands work in situations like that, just slip them over your shoes and instant cheap "shallow water or mud" waders :P

I like the first one from the perspective you used. Possibly no need to get wet feet? Anyway, it's good work. I'm afraid I've gone wading many times to get the shot. sometimes I take the shoes off, sometimes I don't.

Very nice shots!
The bridge is cool... but I really like those big round granite boulders.
Looks like an awesome area to photograph!

It's truly an unbelievable area. I'm beginning to wonder why I spent all summer photographing birds...

Really nice, Scottes! I like both shots, but I particularly like the way you used the boulders in the foreground in the second shot.

Cool! When I looked at last weekend's pics I realized that I barely took any wide-angle shots with foreground. So I made an effort to do so this time, and extended my tripod only a few times. I'm glad it worked.

Yep, I'd say it worked. That's a nice looking bridge. I wish we had more of those out this way. There are only two that I know of in California (though there are probably more that I don't know about), and I still haven't made it to one of them.

I really like these 2 shots, But I think the 2nd one is my favorite, there's just something about the way the rocks lead you into the photo, Nice job.

That's it, I'm going back with boots to get into the middle of the stream.
The first pic shows the mountain background, which I like quite a bit. It also catches the sun better I think, especially on the rocks. But I couldn't get out into the stream from that side, so I couldn't get the rocks in the foreground.
The other side of the stream was dark because now the sun's behind the trees. You can't see the mountains either. But the were more small rocks and I could get some of them into the foreground.
So if I can get *into* the stream I'll get the best of both worlds. I just need to waterproof my feet and my tripod's feet. (Would water really harm an aluminum tripod? It might get into the lower section but the stream's only 8-10" deep. Probably safer to waterproof the tripod feet anyway.)
Thanks folks. Now I just hope that I can get back there before the snow closes the roads or something.

UN-FOOIE?
Yep.
English is a ridiculous language IMHO. Full of ridiculous things. Don't even get me started.
So, to reverse a fooie it takes an un-fooie. Simple "laws of the English language" being used here.
For instance, if you have a small empty cardboard box you would be able to pick it up. Therefore it is "pickupable." Admit it - if you and I were contemplating an empty cardboard box and I stated that it was "pickupable" then I'm sure that you would realize that I believed that one could lift the box.
(You might also think I'm crazy, but that's not part of this story.)
But if it were a very large box, too big to grab with 2 hands, would it be unpickupable or nonpickubable?
Why do we have so many prefixes meaning (basically) "not" - un-, im-, il-, in-, dis-, ir- and non-? I mean, why do "flammable" and "inflammable" mean the same thing? Why do we park in a driveway and drive on a parkway? Why do they call them "buildings" when they're already built? Why do we have a pair of pants but only one bra? What's another word for thesaurus? Why is "abbreviation" such a long word? Isn't it a bit unnerving that doctors call what they do "practice"? Why do they call it a TV set when you only get one? How come you never hear about gruntled employees? Why do we play in recitals and recite in plays? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? Why do they call it Rush Hour if nothing moves? Why is the alphabet in that order - is it because of that song? Why are there 5 syllables in the word "monosyllabic"? Why is it, when a door is open it's ajar, but when a jar is open, it's not a door? Why do we put suits in a garment bag and put garments in a suitcase? Why is it that you can be overwhelmed or underwhelmed, but never just whelmed?
Oh, boy, you got me started....

I used f/22, but I really have to play with that. Considering hyperfocal distance I should have been able to get the same shot with f/8, and steered clear of corner distortions and such caused by such a small aperture, and remained at an aperture closer to optimal.
But then I read about people, like the "f/64" club I think it's called - who go to extreme apertures in order to get the sharpest picture. But if f/8 and hyperfocal could get the shot and get everything in focus then why go to the smallest aperture?
Hmm... I'm going to post this part over in "Talk About Photography" because it's really out of bounds in Share.

New Hampshire has got like 30 of them. I even bought a map of NH just showing the covered bridges and descriptions of each. Hey, for $5 it's several weekends of photo-shoots when nothing else is happening.

Light Hearted? This language has been stressing me out since birth, and you think it's funny. Harumph.
PS: I think it would be "de-start" but could also be "anti-start" but I'm not sure because this language makes no sense at all!

Now you're talkin' ... combine the positive traits of these two shots and you've got the perfect vision of this scene! Photoshop won't do it ... so Gore-Tex it is!
Thanks folks. Now I just hope that I can get back there before the snow closes the roads or something
Hmmm ... another potentially nice element ... snow and ice could really spice up this scene.
