I'm more than sure. In my personal opinion, I believe the A75 has a better sensor/lens combo than the S50. I think the S50's lens is rather weak and too soft.

Yes, it can be done, if you have a support for the camera.
Best would be a tripod, of course, but if you don't have one, you can place it on any stable surface. Use the self timer and leave the camera alone so that you don't move it (by pushing the shutter) while it takes the picture.
Use manual mode and a long time exposition (e.g. 15 seconds) at a small aperture (e.g. 5.6) in order to get a sharp picturs.
