I'm not a reality show guy. I've never watched an episode of Survivor, or any of those type shows. However, at the first of the year my wife and I decided we were going to try and loose some weight. I have a membership at 24 Hour Fitness, so I added her on. While we were first working out, they showed "The Biggest Looser" on the TV's (24 Hour Fitness is a sponser to that show), and very quickly we got hooked. Tonight was the finale, and we got to see how all of the contestants looked before they joined The Biggest Looser and after. You could not believe the change in some of them if you had not seen it.

I've watched most of the episodes (probably 12 out of the 16), and I find that that show really inspires me. Alot of these reality type shows, when people walk away, they walk away with nothing but a good story to tell. When people get eliminated on The Biggest Looser, they walk away with a better and longer life. To see the transformation some of these contestants have gone thru is truly amazing and inspiring.

This show has really demonstrated that the impossible is possible. Personally, it has driven my wife, and kicked her motivation in another gear. My wife has lost alot of weight (close to 50lbs in the last year), and this show keeps her motivated as she has seen other people do it right before her eyes.

I really like the show, because it provides entertainment, but more importantly it provides education on how to live a healthier life style.

So, anyone else watch the show and have been inspired by it?

Check in the Competitions forum there is a thread about POTN losers. (I know that sounds bad but I didn't mean it that way.

I'm an instant gratification kind of girl so I usually only watch the finale. That way I can see the total transformation. Even though I have no investment in these peoples stories, I usually end up crying for them. :)

They inspire me to a certain extent... but in my mind, I always think that they are devoting every waking minute to this. No work, no family obligations, it's their only focus. It's when I see updates of them after they go back into the real world and keep it off that I am truly inspired.

Agreed. In fact, the ultimate winner of The Biggest Looser (Ali) was actually eliminated from the show in week 4, but kept on workin out, and lost enough wait to win herself back into the show, and eventually win the whole competition. She lost almost 50% of her total body weight. She started the competition at 234 pounds, and 16 weeks later made it down to 122lbs.

Here's her before and after shots
