Challenge 167: Spoon

So…run away with it! I figured not too many folk have photos already stored on this subject, be it noun or verb, singular or plural. So get to work and fork….err, rather spoon it over. And for you new folk, who just bought a camera, here is your chance to get in on the fun. This levels out the playing field for the new guy. I hope we all get a generous serving of contributions.

What an odd subject to suggest, spoon. I did my homework, you know? I went back through the challenges that took place here long ago. I thought the idea of a basic form, would force the photographer to make something out of the ordinary. I think we can all agree that was accomplished here. The spoon is the first tool we master. As infants and children, we fumbled with them, dropped them, and made a mess with them. The camera let's us show we've moved beyond; I mean, heaven-forbid we should ever drop our camera.

First place: rpolitsr - We've all been there when that spoon catches that flow from the faucet, sending the water back on ourselves, leaving us with embarrassing wet fronts. The photo is full of fancy...the water is captured in the same light as the spoon, sink and pitcher; they all belong together. I enjoyed what was going on.

Second place: Boutty - Out of the box, man! Half spoon...half rollercoaster model. The entire family enjoyed this one. Very cool.

Third place: Marie - So shrewd are you... to bring the colors of spring warmth to a judge so eager to see the greenery return to his own neighborhood. The photo with its paint effect is indeed nectar to the eyes.

Outstanding job, everyone. I hope the challenge was enjoyable to all. Thank you!

Heard coming from the house as I was outside taking nighttime flash photos of a foil-lined cookie sheet, loaded with every type of spoon we had in the house.

Thank you, Kevan_G9. An unexpected honour!. I thought I was ‘safe’ in some lower place posting after the UFO-spoons or the spoon-nailed hands. The pictures coming after mine were further convincing me that this will be a week free of hosting duties, but I was wrong, it happens. I will find a theme soon for challenge #168.

Mi picture came from the archives. I was experimenting with coloured light and slow shutter speeds, but I also made a series with frontal flash, dimming the lights of the kitchen to freeze the movement. I liked the almost B&W result leaving color only for reflections and, althugh the light was ‘flat’, the water drops and the spoon position were enough to maintain depth and perspective.

I liked the colours of marie’s flowers hiding the spoon and the post procesing effect.

Congratulations to all.

Off to think the theme for challenge 168 I go!

great description
the camera is gold in them ther hands, no fear of dropping the canon
lol

it was wet and very cold yesterday morning when I took the shot out in the back garden . gray skies reflecting in the metal spoon was a problem (which I was trying to avoid) I had water on the black plate to keep the flowers from getting depressed after being gently pulled from slumber in their borderline beds
the water was reflective also but I didn't want their little heads to wilt from thirst . I would have liked to get a slightly different light coming from behind but there was no sunshine

Thank you very much for hosting and judging a very entertaining challenge Kevan
especially as you took over the task from the escapee;)

lol

thanks all

I was going to hang one off my nose. . . and a couple behind the ears, and a bunch out of my mouth, and a couple over the eyes with stickytack or something. . . and maybe a few stuck to my bald head and try for a self portrait.

But as usual, I got too busy and never got around to it!

Many interesting photos this time!! Good job to the winners. The two I also really liked were Edward Spoon Hands by Andrewaaa5 and particularly the shot by WD-40 (Silver Spoon) -- made me think of outerspace with the countertop and shadow making up the planet and the spoon as a spaceship -- very cool interpretation and well shot!!

Congratulations to sir rafael & lady marie for their top spots. Well done everyone. Thanks Kevan_G9 for hosting last week's challenge and ta for the comfortable placing. ;)

It's great to see the afterward comments from everyone behind the shots and read about what their interpretation of the entries.

Certainly I have my fair share of fun making the picture! It was a spoon's pin point impression created by an image captor that I got from a toy shop. Two desk light sources were used - back and side lites. :p

Okay! Okay! Okay! I confess! Andrewaaa5 and I were in cahoots all along. Andrew approached me early on that he was going to be on vacation for a couple weeks, away from a pc and didn't wish to be considered. But he did want to contribute a photo. Who was I to spoil his fun? And I told him that I would gladly take him out of the running since his photos typically were...how did I put it?...oh, yeah, crappy, I think I said.

I hope everyone is okay with what the two of us did. Andrew, that was a wonderfully crappy photo! I hope you had a terrific holiday.

my cover is blown :( rats...

i have to pack and fly tomorrow and will be off the radar for a few weeks. I always like to enter these g-series challenges though. Perhaps it was unfair of me to write to Kevan, but it is too late now..

it was nice to see all these spoony shots!

regarding my entry: the other title for my spoon hands photo was to be called 'Freddy Kruegers Brother' or something similar.

shooting info: tripod mounted G3, Av mode, F8 @ 1 second. Self timer at 2 seconds was used;so I could get my hands into place after pressing the trigger, and fingers over the laid out spoons! Natural light, with the curtains slightly closed. Converted with a 'lith print' action in Photoshop. That is all. Now I will pack...

...and I wont be packing spoons for this trip :p

Car (Carol), can you explain, what is the meaning of your spoon? Is this something you are presented during Christening? I have not seen one of these before...

Knife-nailed hands ?, spoon-nailed hands?, you must complet the Krueger’s cutlery set with the fork-nailed hands before leaving. Enjoy your vacation.

The said spoon was a christening gift my daughter got from her godparents as part of her christening gift. She was christened at 'Rosslyn Chapel' (of the now 'DaVinci Code' fame - before the teams of tourists decended after the making of the film of Dan Browns book! It is a beautiful bulding and well worth a visit although many are said to be slightly disappointed as it is now covered by a large metal roof whilst renovations are ongoing and in the film this had been removed. More info here ....... http://www.rosslynchapel.org.uk/
