Hi guys,
Do you guys bother filling out the registration forms that come with your Canon goodies?
I never have but i was just wondering if this will somehow effect my warranty if i don't bother. Given that my new 70-200 F2.8 L IS cost me £1300 UKP i don't want to take a risk...
What do you do?

I do! Only takes a minute and why not? If you need warrenty service I suppose it's worth having them know you own the product.
When I registered my 10D with Canon, online, I recieved an email to take a survey. When I finished the survey they asked a few more questions and about a month later I recieved a 96mb CF card for free. Not a big deal but worth the 5 minues to answer a few questions. Sometimes it does have benefits to register your products.

In most EU countries you have to fill out the card (in addition to retaining the receipt?) to validate the Guarantee/warrantee. In the UK however it is enough to save the sales receipt and use that as proof of purchase and purchase date.
but of course it can't hurt to fill out the card too, and may help if you are in europe and you need to take it for repair under warranty. (theoretically if your canon gear is under warranty you can take it to any authorized canon repair centre for repair).

I usually register my new Canon toys online, it's the same thing.

Thanks guys, i just did it online...very simple.
I must say that their prices for Extended Warranties are a little steep. £200+ for 3 years on the 70-200 2.8 L IS. It even says "rapid response" which is within "28 days".....not so rapid if you ask me!!!

It isn't necessary to register in the UK to get your legal entitlement. Your warranty is dictated by the date on the sales invoice, which you must keep. Canon's registration system is simply a market intelligence gathering tool. Keep that invoice somewhere safe, and a photocopy as sometimes they fade.

I may be mistaken but, AFAIK, you do not have to fill out the card in the US in order to be entitled to warranty coverage. Generally, only proof of purchase is necessary. I think this came about because a lot of manufacturers used to (actually they still do) combine the warranty card with a survey. Well, the manufacturers were sneaky and decided to sell that information to mail-order marketers. I think someone sued the manufacturers and got the law changed.
So, if you want to fill out the card, go right ahead, but it isn't going to make a difference as far as your rights are concerned. I know that Canon doesn't care. When I sent my 10D for servicing, all they wanted was a copy of the receipt and a copy of the warranty card. The card did not have to be filled out.
If anything, don't be too quick about filling out the card. If you do and you find a defect, you will be unable to return it to the store. No store will knowingly accept the product back with a marked warranty card. B&H Photo, for example, is very clear on this matter. Oh, same thing applies for online registration. Wait until after the store's return period expires before registering. Once again, registering is not really necessary. BTW, you can probably be sure that you didn't get something for nothing when Canon sent you that "free" CF card. :o
