I just purchased the Rebel XSi and upgraded to CS3 from CS2. I was wondering how long it usually takes Adobe to support new cameras? Also I think I have two choices learn a new program from Canon called DPP or convert my RAW images to something or another to use in CS3. Is the conversion option a good way to go and if so how do I do it? I don't want to use JPG if I don't have to.

I believe CS3 already does (support XSi) with the latest ACR update. Have you updated your CS3 via Adobe website?

Support for the Canon XSI/450D was added in the Adobe Camera Raw 4.4 update. You should update your ACR plug-in to the latest version which is 4.4.1.

Camera Raw 4.4.1 update
This new version of the Camera Raw plug-in replaces the original Camera Raw plug-in that was installed with Adobe® Creative Suite® 3, Adobe Photoshop® CS3, and Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 or 6.0 software.
Important notice:
Read the following installation instructions carefully. Incorrect installation will prevent Adobe Bridge and Camera Raw 4.4.1 from reading raw images correctly.
Support for the following cameras has been added in this update. Visit the Camera Raw page for a complete list of supported cameras.
• Canon EOS 450D (Digital Rebel XSi/EOS Kiss X2)
• Fujifilm S100FS
• Nikon D60
• Olympus SP-570 UZ
• Pentax K20D
• Pentax K200D
• Sony A200
• Sony A300
• Sony A350
