Hi.....
Kind of a broad question, but Im up in the air as far as a vacation for 2005 for my wife and I. I would like to go somewhere that I can get an abundance of great pics. Anyone know of any phototography - based trips (ie with other photogs). Aside from the photog-trips, where are your favorite shooting spots....in US or abroad ( I know someone will say in my own backyard you can get great pis, but I thought this would give me some good vacation ideas). I was thinking castles in Germany......Yellowstone Park....Im open to anything.
Thanks!

I am not aware of any specific photo base trips but I would suggest going somewhere as different as possible to where you currently live.
Since your info says you are in New York I would expect that Arizona or the California desert would be quite different from what you are used to.
If you wan to go further afield what about Iceland. I've never been there but if the scenes on Amazing Race were anything to go by there should be lots to take pictures of.
I'm kind of partial to Finland myself since my wife is from there and we go often. Heck, you could even drop in on Pekka.

How about New Zealand.
Go and watch all 3 Lord of the Rings movies again then imagine being able to capture all that same scenary with your own camera, as well a whole lot more that was not shown in the movies. They coveded the mountians, forests and farms lands, but missed the coastlines, dessert and most of the North Island.

The UK/ROI for idyllic villages and well you just gotta see it; or if you want to stay in the US and see some really awesome stuff try Alaska!

It would be better if you told us when you want to take your vacation, because places do change with the season!
That being said, the southwest US is always a good photo location (except in the middle of summer). Hawaii is fantastic. Small towns and villages in the UK are a good choice, too.

I drooled the entire time I watched the movies... I'd love to visit, but most likely I never will.

hehe I was kind of tired at the end of the last one because I and approx 100 of my work collegaues saw ALL 3 in a row in a movie theatre december last year. The colleague that arranged this last year has talked with his contact at the movie theatre about the possibility to arrange a new marathon this year but with the extended versions
But yes New Zeeland looks like a place I would like to visit someday as well as Australia.

Unless you've done something Imigration doesn't like then the only thing stopping you is a trip to the travel agent and some money to pay for the ticket.
No excuses! 8)

...and some money to pay for the ticket.
That's a lot of L you're talking about. I'm too material I guess, or at least I will be until I have enough Stuff. But I've never been one to spend money on vacations. There's still too much to see within a 5-hour drive of home.
But someday, hopefully, I'll be there.

Should I mention we have no Import duties on anything except tabbaco and alachol?
You could get your L and use it to!
That said if I had enough for a 20D I dont't know if I would spend it on a 20D or a trip to Europe and Asia, but you are missing out on photographing some very unique birds. 8)

Another vote for New Zealand.
Also, in no particular order:
- Thailand (north and south)
- Vietnam (the rivers)
- Cambodia (Angkor Wat)
- Italy (architecture)
- Norway (fjords, nature)
If you've never been to Asia then I'd recommend Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia over a 2-3 week period.

How about a trip to the gold old UK. England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales - boy oh boy you'd have plenty to see and do and shoot!
