be patient, !!!
these are nice shots, that being said, I dont like the crop on many of them, and some of the BGs are distracting, but you can only shoot from so many angles I bet. And the one you like the best isnt my favorite of the ones you posted...shows how subjective this all is...lol

Nice shots. I don't like 2 because she didn't make the jump. Those never sell. I wouldn't have cropped 4 so tight because it is hard to tell how high she is in the jump. And 6 is a problem because the runners are cut off at the waist. I always try to get the whole runner. If you want to see way too many running/track shots, check out my website. I think you have the exposures nailed, the wb looks good, and the focus looks sharp.

I also like number 7, the lighting is natural and nice DOF. Her eyes being closed just make me think she is getting focused on whats next. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you all I will definitely take all advice next time.
Peter actually this was after this little girl won all 5 events she was entered into. She won the 100, 200, 400, 4X1, and 4X4. I think the closed eyes are out of sheer exhaustion. But thank you for agreeing with me... I just cannot stop looking at that pic
Santa - The crop that you mentioned on the long jump isn't cropped at all that was the full photo. I cranked the lens the wrong way when I took it (rookie error)
Superdiver - The places I can shoot from are limited now because I am really new to all this and I try to stay out of the way of the fans and coaches as much as possible. I guess I will get a little more intrusive in time but I don't want to get on the bad side of the coaches because in the end they sort of hold the purse strings when it comes to getting the school contracts LOL

I like the action and photos.
It's just a personal style, but I would have liked the same photos with a "tighter" focus. The last portrait type shot is the closeness I prefer. For example, the girl high-jumper I would have liked more if all I saw was her and the bar. That's just me, you did a nice job with the action. Experiment with tight and wide shots from all kinds of angles. Settle on a style that is "you".
Good work.

Do they allow parents on the field, or do you have to get permission to shoot. Shots are good, hard to catch action in track.

Thanks kidpower I will shoot from different angles and try to catch some other shots.
Suzy - They do allow parents on the field in middle school however I don't have anyone running. I work for a sports phootgraphy group that all we do is focus on about 8 local area high schools, middle schools, and the little kids too. We cover all sports and I just started with them about a month ago so I am still learning the in's and out's of everything. Also I may shoot track today, softball tomorrow, baseball on saturday, and back to track on Monday so it really is a trick to be able to catch everything or catch every shot which is impossible.

#3 is probably my favorite shot because you caught it in Peak Action.

#4 and #6 would have been nice had body parts not been cut off. Some sports, you can get away with cut off bodyparts, but in track and field, I feel the images are more effective when all of the bodyparts are showing. Running is so expressive, you want to see the muscles in the legs and arms. I like the exposure you have going on in the images. The sunlight looks nice.

I really like #7 alot. I can almost feel what she is feeling. Very crisp shots you took as that was the first thing I noticed about all your shots. Keep up the good work and learn as you go. Hell I learn something everyday on this site.

Great timing on #3. A little more zoom or a tighter crop would work well on this one.
#7, though, is excellent. The lighting on her face and her hair is wonderful. The emotion visible on her face really sells the shot.

I agree with superdiver, the crop is just a little tight.

OK,
photo1, you're on the correct side of the landing zone just not close enough to the line. I know they sometimes tellu to stand clear so judgement call.
#2 & #3
These are best shot more parallel to the bar,, (if you lower yourself you can clean up the BG )
#4 shoot straight on as this causes the bg to clean itself up. A slightly higher angle can also clear up the BG on these.
#5 Hurdles are a zoom lens lovers dream,, shoot these straight on and about belt high as well.
#6
Crop, crop, crop. Crop out all of the BG stuff and focus on the expressions.
#7
Excellent. Beautiful light, great capture.
These are just my numble opinions. :)
