Hi,

I am going on a trip shortly and I am looking for a very light but high quality tripod. Total length is an issue as well as weight, the Gitzo appears to be great in all departments on paper. I have scoured the web but so far have found no reviews of the G-1028MK2.

Anyone here have any experience with this model?

Best,

Darrin

I can't remember right off hand, but I think that's the same one we sell at work. We've had two news paper photographers buy these, and from what they say, they love it. They like it because it's light and strong. They also have matching monopods.

BTW, I bet I know what brand loudspeakers you own!

Thanks for the info, yes I do own Tannoy's but I also work for them.

You're welcome. I hope that helps you a little.

I used to have a pair of mX3-M's, and they sounded pretty darn good for the price. Then I moved into tubes and bought a pair of Triangle Zephyr's.

Say, do you think you could swap out my Triangles for a pair of WestMinsters??!!

I use the G1228 MK2 with Rapid Column. It's a great tripod.

Hi Scott,

Do you find it stable enough for most conditions? I was a little concerned with using it in light wind. My heaviest combo would be either the 24-70L or my 70-200F4 with a 20D and BG-E2.

Also how much weight can the center hook support in your opinion?

Thanks,

Darrin

It is very stable. I have used a MarkII and Sigma 500mm f/4.5 on a Wimberley, with no problem. I haven't needed to use the hook.
