I'm relatively new to this and have what may be a simple question. I am going to Paris with my wife on December 17 for for 5 days. First time for both of us. I am taking my 20D and am wondering what you all would suggest for lenses, etc. I have the kit lens(18-55), a 50/1.8 from my EOS650, and a 70-200 F/4L. (I really don't want to carry the 70-200 if it won't be useful.) I have considered buying the Tamron 28-75. Similar coverage but better quality based on the posts here. I have the 580EX flash which is going. The question is which lenses to take and would you take a tripod. On the other hand would there be something else I should consider other than the Tamron. While funds are not unlimited my wife is in the "this may be the only time we are there mode" so purchasing another lens is dooable. I would like to get the thoughts of you who have a lot more experience.
Thanks
Tom

A tripod certainly. The night scene in Paris is beautiful.

I think it'd be wise to get a decent quality midrange lense before your trip. The kit lense is ok but like the rest of us here, we're not looking for "ok" pictures. I'm assuming you don't want to drop a grand on a 24-70L (personally, I'm not even sure if it is worth it).

Having been posting on this board the last month or so, the Tamron 28-75 seems to been keeping a lot of people happy.

Me and my girlfriend went and just took a Canon EOS 50, Tamron 28-80 and a Canon 75-300 (Early days, before my addiction kicked in!).

This is my favourite shot from the week there:

Slightly blurred, but was shooting handheld. No photoshoping done either!

Oh and when you go, head to Pere Lachaise cematary, an amazing place, not like anything you'll have seen before, so many photo opportunities! The Paris Catacombes are also worth a visit!

If you want to shoot alot of landscapes I would get a polarizing filter and/or a graduated neutral density filter.
