I'm trying to figure out what kind of performance I can get using the 250D or 500D with the D60. The lenses I have that can take these close-up adapters are:

50mm f/1.8 II - 52mm 250D recommended, but only gives 0.35x magnification
28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 USM II - 58mm 250D will work
100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM - 58mm 500D recommended, 250D may work also (not sure, not recommended by canon).

Has anyone used these close-up attachements with either of these lenses (or similar lenses)? My real decision is between getting the 250D, 500D, 50mm f/2.5 macro or 100mm f/2.8 macro lens. My subjects are mostly small mechanical parts like nuts, bolts, screws and other specialty parts found in electric equipment. I'm not doing copy work or anything where corner-to-corner sharpness is important, so I think I can get by without a true macro lens. But I'd really like to see some samples before I spend even $85 for the 250D.

Thanks,

Adam

I would also consider a set of Kenko extension tubes. THey are three extension collars, not optics so third party are just fine. You will retain AF and can be used with every lens that you own. With your 50mm, you will go beyond 1:1. I have been using them with my 85mm 1.8 with great success. It is a lot of fun, though I did have to spend more moeny to buy a focusing rail.

Found mine used in a local shop for 79.00

I have a 500D and even with 1.4X MkII it produces excellent quality (with 70-200 f/2.8L).
