This is interesting reading I found today. Apparently, Monster cables with their outrageous $100 HDMI cables sent a cease and desist letter to Blue Jean cables for offering the Tartan brand cables which are high quality cables at 10% the cost of the Monster Cable.

Little did Monster know that the CEO of Blue Jean Cable is former Litigation Attorney with years of experience...so the little guy hits back and he doesn't spare the sucker punches.

Check out the first paragraph of his response...wow it is not even a "FACE!" it is all gut...

Wonderful :)

I read about this when it first surfaced and I wish the guy the best of luck, although it sounds like he doesn't need it and he has the situation under control :)

I fart in the general direction of anyone who has put money into monster cable's wallet.

It is preposterous that Monster believes it is justified to charge $100 band up for a 6ft HDMI cable...That's just crazy!

Good cables can make a visible difference but Monster isn't really one of the best ... they are a safe brand for people who know nothing better. Goodd luck to the guy. I wonder how it'll go. Great PR for him.

I once laughed out-loud in a store (Currys i think) when a salesman tried to convince some poor sucker that the end of a Monster optical fibre cable was gold plated for better electrical conductivity

I work on high speed fibre optic data network links regularly, and trust me, none of our fibre patch cords have gold plated ends on them, and when I see the price of the stupid low-grade 'toslink' leads being sold I cringe...

In any case, WTH would gold do to improve the transmission of light? That's sounds like the craziest thing I've ever heard! LOL

But it's GOLD. Gold makes everything better.

That's the funny thing. Most people don't know because they have been clouded by the retailers, but Silver is actually the best conductor or heat and electricity. ( Not that it would matter on TOSLINK or MTRJ or any fiber optic implementation.) Gold is the better choice in electronics since both Copper and Silver tend to tarnish. Gold has a better resistance to tarnishing. But if one was to look for conductivity, Silver or Copper would be best.

The only time I've bought monster cable is at Princess Auto or XS Cargo where its about 95% cheaper than their regular cost.

Heh, that's a pretty damn funny letter. I'd be interested to see where that goes. :p

There's a F-U (Follow-up) on the bottom of the page to an interview.
