View Full Version : Seattle Meet 2008

It's been over a year everyone, and I wasn't able to make the last one. I'm heading off to college in the fall, and would love to get a POTN meet in before I leave the beautiful Northwest.

Anyone have a preference for dates? Destinations?

Personally, I'd love to go to Either Seattle or Mt. Rainier National Park on the 14th of June.

Got a wedding on the 14th. If we do it earlier in June I'd be in! Not that anyone probably knows me around since I only moved to the area 3 months ago. Looking forward to getting connected!

Missed this before, Chandler. I'd be interested in getting together with folks again, too. It was a lot of fun last year. I'm coaching a couple of youth baseball games that morning, but would do my best to catch up with people after that.

I'd be interested. I don't know if I could make it this June - it's a busy time for me. If there were a meet later in the year I would certainly be in.

I'm interested. When we have a specific date I can comment on whether or not it works. June 14th is out though due to the airshow in Olympia which draws a lot of people. Unless you want to meet there or something.

I'm interrested as as well. I love to hike; anyone interrested in doing a hike? How about Shi Shi beach on May 10th. I went there about two months ago and think the tides will be about perfect height on the 10th of May.

June 14th works as well for Mt Rainier, but looks like most of the crowd can't make it. I have an Outlook Callander full of hikes for the spring/summer, so anyone interrested in doing some hiking can come along pretty much any weekend.

I may be working on a wedding June 14, not sure yet. I'll keep checking the thread to see what comes up. I would enjoy getting together for some landscape shooting.

I'll be done with school. So I say let's do it! I'd pick Rainier despite the distance. I hear it's beautiful up there. I'd also like to go as I've never been up there.

My brother has UW graduation on June 13th and 14th, so they won't work for me. Plus I have to move home. Weekdays are also a no-go with my internship.

The location of Rainier is quite good for me as it's actually just 50miles from my front door to Paradise lodge at the top of Rainier, but the weekend is off due to an annual event. I don't know how many people one might expect, but what if you put a poll out of about 3 weekends and see which one has the best chances? Between the 3 choices I could make one or two work.

I'd be totally down for a meetup. This summer is busy season for me, but I'll check my schedule ... June is better than July or August.

Wow, Shi Shi beach is absolutely beautiful. I was at Cape Flattery last fall but I didn't even know this place was there. How long is the hike to the beach? Is it an over-night trip? I'll be keeping an eye on this thread to see what the group decides, I'd like to try and make it out this year for a meet.

I believe I'm in... I'm pretty open but my fiance is a little weird about me meeting people I don't know LOL! He won't even let me use Craigslist without him :o but if we decide a place and everything it'll be easier to know if I can make it.

How about sometime earlier in the year like mid May? Obviously Mt Rainier would be out, but there are plenty of other places we could go. I'm a hiker and it appears that a number of others are as well, but it would be nice to know about how far people are willing to walk and if they are willing to camp so we can choose a good spot for everyone. I'm open to all types of walking/hiking and willing to camp.

rparchenay, the hike to Shi Shi is about two easy miles.

All right, so the 14th looks terrible for everyone. Anyone care to throw out another date? Not everyone would be able to make any given date. If you put out 3 weekends that work for you and have people pick the one that works best for them, you'll have a good chance at getting the most workable date. I mentioned the poll earlier, that's one way it could be handled. You could make a poll and put a link to it in this thread if you were so inclined. If they could pick more than one option or you had options that gave "a or b" or "b or c" as options you could get the kind of results you'd want I think. Some people could pick any of the 3 dates, some only 2, but if you only gave a single vote for each given date it would be a mess I think. If the poll seems awkward to you I could set it up for you with your choice of dates if you prefer. You're hosting so I think you should pick the dates. Just let me know if you would like me to do it.

Why don't we make it on a neutral weekend where people are going to likely be back home... like July 2nd or 3rd or something. Most people aren't traveling during this time...

For what it's worth I think we lost the OP. Haven't heard from him since I mentioned he should pick some dates since he was hosting. Maybe someone else who cares enough about it should jump in. The OP may chime in, but it's been a long time without him (a couple weeks I think) and the calendars goin' by too fast to presume he still has input. I don't want to be the host. If it's gonna happen someone's gotta figure out a way to get everyone headed towards a schedule etc. or else it's never gonna get off the ground.

How about May 31st?LOL, speak of the devil and he appears! <<< Devil icon...

May 31st could work for me. It's on of the 2 days of the Roy Rodeo (which I'm going to shoot), but ATM I don't see why I couldn't meet up on the 31st and hit the rodeo on its 2nd day.

Well Matt, would it kill you if we went ahead and did it on the 31st, knowing that we'll squeeze another one in in July or August? I've got Prom and graduation going on the next couple of weekends, so this is the only week that works for me.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Cool. We're going on the 31st.

Everyone make a suggestion and we'll get a poll up.

Some suggestions, Gasworks/Fremont/Queen Anne/The Zoo/U-district/Japanese Garden at the Arboretum/Pike Place or somwhere out in the sticks will work too....Whataya think, city or sticks?

Chandler.
19th of May 2008 (Mon), 23:45
I vote city, but something other than pike place.

tkoutdoor

The Woodland park zoo could be an option, or if we're really up for it we could do a harbor tour that may do a whale watching excursion. There are others that include a meal and do a variety of harbor and etc. things. Could even have a custom tour possibility maybe that's just our group. Pike's place and the waterfront offer some cityscape and street photography options. We could go poke our head in the Art Wolfe gallery a few blocks away possibly too. Hiking in the sticks would normally be great for me too, or some birdwatching that's ruralish to Seattle, but not necessarily remote if someone knows a place. This particular day though it's possible that my friend's car will be back again from his wreck and he'll be racing WMRA again that evening. I'd be heading out to his place to make Tenino by about 4:30pm (at the earliest) possibly. Only 50/50 chance on that. The sticks probably reduce my chances of putting that all together, but then he might not be in the race anyway if his car's not up for it. I'll know more as we get closer to the 31st. Gasworks Park seems a little limited in potential to me, but I guess you do have a cityscape possibility there along with the pipes and a little people watching.

Somewhere in the city would work best for me. The arboretum is really cool if you guys haven't ever been.

doidinho
20th of May 2008 (Tue), 22:27
Here are some possible locations in the area:

Center for Wooden Boats
Bellevue Botranical Gardens
Discovery Park

I'm headed to the Brazil/Canada match at Qwest field that evening; probally some good candid photo ops outside the stadium; Brazillians are fanatical about soccer and there are tons of them here in Seattle.

Chandler.
21st of May 2008 (Wed), 00:03
I vote for the arboretum. I've never been, and heard it is very cool.

Chandler.
21st of May 2008 (Wed), 00:04
We could even do it in 2 parts, maybe hit the arboretum in the morning and then the city for lunch and some more shooting.

Someone with enough interest to coordinate it properly should start a new thread so as not to hijack this one and put it together. This one failed due to lack of coordination, not of insufficient interest IMO. Might put a link to it here though so that those on this list who were interested could still make it.
