I'm thinking of getting a Canon Angle Finder C but they're not cheap and I'll probably not use it lots, just in those tight situations. I assume that the Canon is best but what comes closest for cheaper money?
I need it to work with a 1DmkIII and a 5D if that makes any difference.
Cheers!

... sorry but you own a 1D Mark III AND a 5D and youre concerned about the price of the angle finder? Just buy the canon one... Its very nice and worth the money. I dont use mine very often, but am always glad to have it when I do need it.

I think konica/ minolta made one that fits the canon eye piece but I'm not sure if they make them still

Get the Generic eBay version from Link-Delight. If its not something you use routinely then you would be better off spending $42-50 bucks rather than the OEM version.

I've got a very old Yashica one that fits fine on my 40D. They can be had for about £10-£20.

You could checkout hoodman's as well. They are a nice company from the other stuff I have seen from them:

Their's is pricey again though.

That's why I'm broke! :)
Thanks for the ideas everyone!

echo, optics on the Hoodman angle finder are about the same a the Canon, the one thing I did not like was that the Hoodman adapter did not fit as secure as the Canon and built seemed to be not as good. EBAY has some for inexpensive listed on their site, a search for angle finder brings up loads of them. If you are only using very little one of those should work, I replaced mine with the Canon, I also use it alot when setting up remote cameras

I looked at all the alternatives, but in the end went with Canon. Too many complaints of loose fitting alternatives that drop off the finder, poor quality plastic construction, etc. This included the Hoodman and the Adorama house brand version.

eBay has right angle finders. If you do macro work and want precision focus, some have 1.2x and 2.5x power settings for a higher price. But then there are some that are 1x only, which is what I purchased for myself, as I wanted only a low angle focus ability but not precision focusing.

Thanks for the ideas :) I'll scan eBay and maybe hold out for a lightly used Canon one if any come up.
Cheers!

I have an Angle Finder B from the FD era, used on my AE1 and A1. 1x magnification, fits on my 30D quite well. Used it a few times to date.

I don't understand why some people are so eager to spend other people's money, but I will say that in my experience with accessories such as this (not this one specifically, though) that you generally do indeed get what you pay for. I've been burned by cheaper alternatives so often that I try to stay with a brand that I trust, such as Canon, whenever I can. I've just had better experiences, and been more satisfied, with the results when I do.

Check out http://www.digital-cameras.com/ Mike.
They're currently showing a 30% discount for stock items and showing the angle finder C as "in stock". Initial price is a bit high at £120 but drops to £84 with the discount.
I've just ordered one. I have the earlier angle finder B but need a different adapter for the mark III eyepiece. It fitted the 20D and mark IIN no problem though. Anyway I couldn't turn the C version down at that price! I guess the B is headed for ebay...
cheers
