I'm going to an indoor ice sculpture exhibit this friday and would love to take some photos. The problem is that they say they keep the room at 9 degrees!! They even hand out calf length hooded parkas to people when you enter to keep you warm.
Is it safe to operate digital cameras at this temp? I have the S1 IS.

9 degrees *what*? Assuming you don't mean Kelvin I don't think there should be a problem. I hear some cameras are extremely sensitive, but I haven't had any problems with my G5 at -12 ÂșC (~9 F).
If you really mean 9 Kelvin, I wouldn't go there!

LOL. Yea, 9 Kelvin would be bad. It's 9 Fahrenheit thankfully.

Last winter I regularly had my 10D out in -25-30 temperatures with no problem other than when you got back in the car it tended to fog up for a couple of minutes. I don't see why the S1 should not be able to operate in these temperatures either.

Keep your batteries warm.
