Extreme Cold Temps?

I'm going to an indoor ice sculpture exhibit this friday and would love to take some photos. The problem is that they say they keep the room at 9 degrees!! They even hand out calf length hooded parkas to people when you enter to keep you warm.

Is it safe to operate digital cameras at this temp? I have the S1 IS.

9 degrees *what*? Assuming you don't mean Kelvin I don't think there should be a problem. I hear some cameras are extremely sensitive, but I haven't had any problems with my G5 at -12 ºC (~9 F).

If you really mean 9 Kelvin, I wouldn't go there! :lol:

LOL. Yea, 9 Kelvin would be bad. It's 9 Fahrenheit thankfully.

Last winter I regularly had my 10D out in -25-30 temperatures with no problem other than when you got back in the car it tended to fog up for a couple of minutes. I don't see why the S1 should not be able to operate in these temperatures either.
