Whilst I am not a professional photographer, I do aspire to be professional in my dealings with models and in the presentation of my photographs.

Last night my camera club had a photo shoot in which a condition of participation is that the photographer will provide the model with some copies of their photographs. I have offered to do a CD of the shots I had taken and as it takes very little effort I will include a “pictures to exe” slideshow for her convenience, this slideshow has the advantage of being difficult to rip the images out of it.

With the single images I am considering sizing them at 600 x 400 pixels @ 72 ppi and include a copyright notice on them. This is as much to remind her who the photographer was than to protect the images, as if someone is determined they could easily remove it, albeit they wouldn't be a good copy at this resolution.

I would appreciate some feedback on what others do in a similar situation, particularly with regard to putting a copyright notice on the single images.

Whilst giving her the images on CD at low res may be the best bet for you it will not help her in terms of her portfolio. You should have determined at the time (or before) what she wanted. It is not an uncommon arrangement that the model will work at a reduced rate or even a freebee if she is trying to put a decent portfolio together.

This is a little confusing. Who is helping who out here? The models posing for free for amateur photographers or the photographers taking pics of models for free? If both are true, for whom is it harder to get what they want for free? :P

I'd say give her good pics and say thank you, too.

Many thanks guys for your responses.

I certainly will be taking on board your comments when and if, the time comes when I shoot one on one. In this instance the waters are some what muddied due to the fact that this was a camera club shoot so that the relationship is between her and the club’s committee and the agreement is that we (the members) will provide prints / CD but I take your point Bloo Dog and not to degrade the image quality.

But could I ask one other question, do you add a copyright notice on your images you give the model?
