View Full Version : How Often Do You Photograph?

Hey guys, I have a question for everybody. How often do you guys actually get out and use your camera to take pictures? I know i don't shoot as much as i'd like to, but that will soon change when i get my new lens. I actually spend more time here than shooting! So the question is, how often do you get out and shoot. Once a week, twice a week, how often? Also, for how long at a time, on average?

I shoot about 4 times a week. Lately, 5 times. Today I shot an orchestra performance being the only one with a DSLR in the first row taking close ups of the musicians. I shot my sons' soccer earlier. I also shot a service project our church did this morning. So, just today, I shot 3 different events. It's all about having the camera with you and taking advantage of it.

yea, i just don't feel comfortable with a camera hanging aruond my nexk at age 13. All the adults look at me funny, like im some freak child who is actually intelligent, and it is something i need to overcome. I'm trying to get out more and more, shooting wwhatever i can, like sister soccer games.

You know we all look like freaks and get the same looks with camera's around our necks. I personally wish I could carry a big invisable camera that no one can see so I can just pull it out any time I want and no one is going to notice.
I see others that actually get excited when people notice. I was once riding a bus from downtown when a person pulled out a camera and the bus driver actually stopped for the shot. When she continued on, the person with the camera ran after her just to get another shot???
They met a block down the street and BS'd a bit. Something along the line of the bus being a movie star or something like that.

LOL. I average about 1000-2000 pics per week. Between shooting sports & family stuff. :D I spend more time shooting, than I do online. When I was 13, I spent as much time outside, as I possibly could. Yeah, we had a family computer when I was 13, but I preferred to be outside. Even if you don't take your camera with you, just go outside and spend time walking around. Photography is partially about being creative. Capturing what your eye is seeing. The remaining other half is made up of many other factors.

whenever i can! which is almost everyday :)
if its bad weather outside, then it'll be a studio day. if its good weather, i'll spend half the day outside birding or bugging, or macro-ing.

In the few weeks, about every other day. Over the winter maybe once a week.

only on weekends, we all have to earn our dough on weekdays...
my cam & walkabout lens is always with me when im out on weekends. i believe we don't just bring our gear out when there is a specific photo opportunity, it should be like the AMEX mantra "don't leave home w/o it".

I usually try to get out about once a week. I don't shoot professionally so my job gets in the way quite a bit. The weather has been horrific here(Fairbanks)this spring so I haven't gotten out seriously for 3 weeks.
I won't go out just to exercise my shutter, I usually have a very specific purpose in mind. If I don't see conditions or subject matter I like I find it very hard to press the shutter. When I do find something coming together I am still very conservative, usually coming home with about a rolls worth of shots.
I also sometimes feel self conscious with a camera draped around my neck, but I try to concentrate on the results I am trying to get. I try not to care what others are thinking. I think my self consciousness is why I gravitate toward nature and landscape.

wow i really need to get out and shoot more. I guess i will more when i get my lens, because the only reason iv'e been online is to research which is the best lens to suit my needs, and pretty much how to be a photographer, like learning composition, what vignetting and CA and those thypes of things are. Now i really want to get my new lens so i can show you all up! im going for 1k a day baby! :D:D

I shoot just about every day, probably about 2-3K shots a month. I "get out" to a planned shoot at least once a week. The rest of the time I'm shooting my family, friends and things in and around my house, work and neighborhood....I'm probably "that weird guy with a camera" that lives down the street. But, I've always been consumed by some sort of hobby or art. Whether it be Photography, music, motorcycles, bikes or snow skiing. Photography and music being the closest to my heart as.....that's where it comes from.

I know most people wear their camera around their neck, but I don't get it. The first time I tried putting my camera around my neck I couldn't stand it; it's so umcomfortable. Mine is either on my tripod, in my hand or in my bag.

For a moment I debated if I should even reply since it's just embarrassing to admit I have had my camera sitting in its box for a few months now and I haven't been taking any photos of late.
The most recent time was a big shoot for my cousin's wedding back in January this year. Since then I've take the camera out to attempt some photos in the garden. Not much more than that.
Most of my time has gone to the dogs (and cats) at work. Rest of the time I pretty much spend online, reading photography books, time with family. However in a matter of days I should be going up to the hills with family to photograph the autumn colors.
That's assuming I can take leave from work, of course, seeing that pretty much half the work place has already decided to go on leave.

Couldn't bear the thought of sweating onto my beloved camera strap, so I've never hung the camera from my neck. The handstrap is a lovely thing.

I think joining this forum 2 1/2 years ago was inspiring for me. I have never been so excited about a hobby and now I do this professionally, even if I don't get paid. I take around 12k a year for my pro work, and about 5k for personal work. I have filled 2 hard drives already.

Ditto. Nothing has ever "lit my fire" as much as this forum. I got my 5D 15 months ago and now I have over 22,000 shots on it.

I am a weekend photographer unless I have a weekday special assignment (for instance I am photographing a military honors funeral this coming Wednesday at Arlington National Cemetery...I took a day of vacation to do this). The day job allows me to have my photography filled weekends :)
I average 200-400 photos each weekend and that can easily jump to a 1000+ if I am doing a wedding or family event.

Since my new year's resolution, every day. When I am doing a PaD, I am religious about carrying my camera with me always, everywhere. This time, however, I am having so much fun that it doesn't feel like a chore. My previous PaD's would end after I'd get to the point that I felt it was a chore.
Looking at my image numbers, I've shot 5k photos this year, pretty much 80% of those are for my PaD (perhaps even higher).
I definately try to shoot "manageable batches" meaning less than 50 shots. On family vacations, all caution goes to the wind and I wind up with 3,000 - 5,000 shots on a week+ trip (which then takes weeks to process).

It was a figure of speech and I have my camera wherever it is most comforatble and 9 times out of ten it is on the end of a tripod with the strap over my neck just in case. I usually move around carrying camera and tripod.
When I do have just my camera I grab it by the collar.
