The Mark II quiet shutter setting really works well (only in single shot mode, though). Is there some down side to using it? Thanks.

You can set it using the personal functions. It is P.Fn.-21, and makes the camera reduce the amount of mirror slap (and therefore, the noise level of the Mark II). To set personal functions you must have your camera connected to your computer (via Firewire) and use the software provided by Canon (EOS Viewer Utility).

It's very effective, really quieting the camera down. The setting works in single shot mode, and goes away if you switch to a continuous shooting mode.

I hope this helps.
