I have a Canon 30D with v1.0.6 firmware.

I've been having issues with only my SanDisk Extreme III 2.0 GB card having CF_ERRORS.

I have some low end SanDisk 2Gb CF cards and have issues with those as well. The only cards I don't have issues with on this camera is the Ultra II 512Mb.

Are the chances of getting bad media that high these days?

I thought I had fixed the issue with a firmware upgrade, I didn't get a CF_ERROR for 100s of shots but then *BAM* right in the middle of some aerial photography over LA I get CF_ERROR. I'm glad I had the back up 512Mb but I still had to number my shots.

I'm pretty sure SanDisk will send me a replacement but I'm worried its the camera. Anyone else have issues like this?

Thank you.
Gary

I have used numerous different types of CF on the 30D and haven't encountered the CF_ERRORS. I've had one CF that has gone corrupt and is being replaced. If so many of your cards are giving you problems, then it may very well be your camera. I suggest you to test your cards in other devices to see if they work in them.

Have you tried formatting the cards in your computer? That does seem to do a more thorough job than formatting in the camera does, because people have frequently found "bad" cards once again worked fine after the reformat. It's also turned up some truly bad cards before the owner actually lost any photos in use.

It just seems like its an issue with anything larger then 512Mb.

I've formatted them in the computer and I'm hoping that will help, but only time will tell...

I ended up sending off the camera for repair $190 later they fixed it. The release switch needed to be replaced.
