I am putting this post here because I am just complimenting myself on draining my savings account.
Just finished up a model shoot with my 1 day old 1DsMkII, overall very nice. Compared to my 10D I have the following notes; please take into account I am only half way through the manual and have only had the camera for one day after using a 10D for a year and a half. Any complaints should be viewed in this light.
- I love the Auto Focus on this camera - I can actually see when it is aiming in the wrong place. I also like the manual focus better on this camera then my 10D, however I still want a different focus screen when I need precision manual.
- Way more control then I need at this time over shutter and aperture.
- Must get faster bigger CF cards - can't emphasis enough that I need to upgrade these. Also need a faster card reader. My Lexar 40X performed well in the camera, my standard SanDisk seemed slower then my 10D (both 1gig cards). Recognize the larger file size made it seem slower. Also, I liked how I changed the card son my 10D better, I could do it much quicker when I needed to. So far the 1DsMkII I have to actually think about what I am doing. I do like that it is less likely I will accidently open it up while writing.
- Speaking of file size. I think I will get stock in a DVD manufacturer.
- one of the really good news was that I could use the Jpeg and make an 8x10 out of it after cropping and still see no artifacts.
- I had to use the jpeg because my PS CS doesn't have 1DsMkII yet.
- Okay with the battery it is a bit heavier then my 10D with Big Ed attached.
- Much like my 10D, I still feel the need to duct tape the sync cord on (it keeps falling out when I go off tripod)
- I love the RGB histogram, much easier to see what the camera is doing.
- reviewing an image still seems more difficult then on my 10D and using the enlargement option (which I did frequently) was kind of a nuisance (although going up-down to sideways when enlarged on the LCD was way better)
- Almost forgot, woo hoo!! wide angle from my wide angle lens. having full frame kind of messed me up for the first 45 minutes as I kept wanting to get a head shot with my 28-70 and it just wouldn't make it where I was used to; so I had to switch to 70-200. right now it is a toss-up between 85/1.2 and 135/2 for next lens, but still leaning towards 85/1.2; just need to play with my FF sensor a few more times to see where I am sitting at.
- in conclusion, I overall like my new camera, but there are a couple of things that I liked better on the 10D. I will like my new camera even better after I can get my 1DsM2 images to work in PS.
