Im looking to order a sunpak 383 TODAY (need it next monday) but the 2 big names are closed til the 28th for passover. Any ideas?

Also, what cord do I need to hook this flash to a pocket wizzard (seeing as the cord to my recently blown up vivitar obviously wont work)

For the Sunpak, try Calumet

what cord do I need to hook this flash to a pocket wizzard (seeing as the cord to my recently blown up vivitar obviously wont work)One of these will work:

I would say get the
http://flashzebra.com/wizardcables/0016.shtml

And not monkey with hotshoe solutions that will add one more place a contact or something else can go wrong. (Fewer things in the mix less to have the opportunity to go wrong).

The hotshoe adapter vs. the sync cord adapter:

Both are a single device with connections on both ends. I don't see an advantage to either in terms of reliability.

The hotshoe adapter has two potential advantages which may or may not be significant in this case. First, a hotshoe adapter can be used with any hotshoe flash unit, so it is more of a universal solution than the Sunpak-specific cord. Second, the hotshoe adapter has a 1/4-20 threaded hole in the bottom for easy mounting on a light stand, tripod, or any home-made clamp or bracket utilizing a 1/4-20 screw.

The reliability really would be to have at least one of each, so when one breaks, or you misplace it, or "fill in some other reason here", you don't miss your shot because of a part costing $40 or less.

Redundancy is the key!
