Hi Guys,

As a new G9 owner, I have a question that may be trivial to some of you. It's related to use of the internal flash. Say, if I am in a somewhat dark room and expose RAW with Av without flash with an exposure time of 1/4 sec and f/2.8 and I see an ok picture. Assume then that I turn the flash on. What happens to exposure time? Will it shorten the exposure time behind my back? How does it achieve a correct exposure?

I haven't been able to find much info on this in the manual.

Thanks
Tom

I'm not exactly sure how it works on the G9 but I'm pretty sure it would be the same as an SLR. If set on Av Aperture priority it would just expose for the ambient lighting and use the flash as fill-flash to brighten up any shadows. If you were to set it on Program mode it would use a shutter speed of 1/60 or faster and use a brighter flash to compensate the exposure.

The exposure time remains the same when your flash slow sync is "on" and goes to 1/60 when it is set to "off". The amount of light emitted by the flash is as explained by rc13k.
