Hey I have been looking at various tripods and this one has caught my attention.
I like the ability for low angle shots with the built in adapter. I like that the center column can go horizontally as well.
Would this be a recommended tripod or are there other features I should look for?

haha, yes it is indeed true. Now everyone else here thinks we are loonies, which will likely be confirmed if they hang around long enough.
The low angle and horizonal center column sold me on it. I won't be buying it for another 3 weeks or so, so... I can be convinced otherwise... maybe even to go green ;-)

Hey there Vince,
I've got the 055Pro and love it. The center column that can be affixed horizontally is genius. I never thought I would use it so much, but I do. I went for the 055 rather than the 190 because I didn't want to hunch over as I don't like cranking the center column in fear of added instability. With a light lens, and my 20D, it's not a problem but with heavier lenses I can see it might.
The weight difference between the two is not much so I, once again, that's why I went 055.
Either way, the pro series are awesome. Nice to have the foam grips on cold days too!
Get it, you won't regret it.

I definitely am going pro. I will ahve to consider the price difference between the 190 and the 055 when I do.
I am going to get the 322RC2 grip ball head as well. Perhaps I should have mentioned that when I started the thread.

Is there a "pro" version of the 055 tripod?
Basically the 55 legs with an option to put the column horisontally.

vfilby,
The 322RC2 is excellent as well. When I first saw it I knew that I had to have it. Simply fool proof, fast to set and tough as nails. After I got it, I realized that it was more versatile than I originally thought. The adjustments that you can make to it for right or left handed operation as well as the option to switch the quick release bracket to the end of the grip is genius (so the grip is vertical rather than horizontal).
The 322RC2 and 055Pro combo is super stable. I know there are other quality tripod legs and heads out there of equal and better quality but the feel and quality of these Manfrottos were simply what I was looking for. Got mine in black... nice match.
Have fun!

Yes there is.
Thanks for your input guys. I will be looking into this very soon. The head is already on it's way and I will be picking the legs up some time next month (it is a christmass present that I am buying from my mom),
