Its all there.
The close/clear cut is quite stark.
Are you styling these your self?
Nice props can really make a diff.
Maybe some oil brushed on the chicken, and a touch of heat with the propane torch to give the meat more interest.
The serving proportions are not logical, as there are few greens to go with the whole chicken.
BUT!
Good going, all in all.

Thank you very much for your critique. That really helps to progress. Next time i will use a brush to oil up the chicken, but i don' t think my wife will let me bring the propane torch in the house :) Styling the plates is pretty hard. I don't have much of a background to take pics at different angles.
What do you think about the string left on the chicken or i should of cut it off?
Thanks again!

The string is neither here nor there.
I think it adds interest but looks a bit sloppy.
A bigger plate would allow more stuff to compliment the chicken, like roast carrots or tomatoes. Get more colour.
The cooking looks a bit uneven on the taters, more roasty chewy bits would help.
I think you have flattened the light out a bit too much, compared to your previous series.
Many food guys use 2 food plates.
One plate for light and focus and the second plate for the final, as speed can be of essence.
Your doing good. ;)

In my opinion the whole bird isn't really necessary to show. Try a tighter crop, with less depth of field. Also, the potatoes and spears are a nice touch, (being an Idaho boy I can really appreciate the spuds) but try and use them to create some foreground and background depth, possibly just out of focus next to the bird. Add a garnish, like a fresh bay leaf, and use it within your focused area to draw the eyes to the sweet spot on the bird.

Thanks guys for the responses. This is really great information! I am going to use it next time i am shooting food.

I don't mind the string at all, but the chicken looks undercooked. Can't explain why, but that kinda ruins it for me.

i feel like there should be some detail in the spuds, they look like yellowish blobs to me. I agree with a suggestion above to add some DOF, maybe more of a MACRO approach. I think the overall quality is good, just not exciting.
