Is there a way to load images back to the camera?

I don't have a CF card reader, only the camera (i.e. EOS 20D)

Thanks,

TMR

Why do you need to do this?

Does the camera not just appear as a drive under windows? If so just copy them back. I've never tried it, USB 1.1 on the camera is just too damned slow.

I have the 20D, it has USB 2.0 (not trying to sound snooty :).....). I wanted to load some images back to the camera in order to take those images to the camera store to show them a problem.

Anyway, I think I'll start a new threead on the problem to see what others might think.

Thanks,

Might work under P2P mode, but I think that's meant for direct connection to the printer (haven't tried it). Otherwise, if the problem's with the pictures rather than how they display on the camera, you might just burn them to a CD. But a USB2 card reader would be about the best $15 you can spend for your camera, even with USB2 on the 20D. The only time I hook the camera up to the computer is when I need to set Camera Information. The rest of the time I use my card reader(s).

I sometimes load pictures back onto the memory stick with my Sony f717 ... can't imagine it's any different with CF card.

When the camera is connected to your computer with the USB cable, it should show up under "my computer" as a drive "E:", "F:" ... and the communication should be two way ... read or write.

I've actually loaded up non picture files onto the memory stick while it was in my camera, then connected the camera to my laptop and downloaded the files ... essentially causing my camera to act as a temporary portable hard drive.

Hope this helps,
Todd

It's a function of whether the camera's drivers will support that, not of the type of media in use.

Hi Jon,

I've got a 20D on the the way. Are you saying that Canon cameras hooked up via USB won't allow read and write to the CF card ?

If so, I guess I'll just have to get used to a new way of doing things.

Thanks,
Todd

When it's plugged in, the camera just looks like a removable disk in windows. You can copy to and from it as much as you like. Get a card reader if you want it to be faster or save battery power.

In Peer-to-Peer, the 20D is recognized as a "normal" Windows camera without loading the Canon drivers.

With the 20D in Peer to Peer you will see your pictures, but you will be unable to copy from the computer to the camera, nor will you be able to see the CF directory structure. You will be able to copy from the camera to the computer (but only your photos) however. This is, in part, controlled by the camera's programming, so the behaviour may differ with different cameras.
