View Full Version : Proper aspect ratio for sending to a professional lab?

Well, a full frame is 36x24. So, I would figure the "on the film" aspect ratio would be 3:2. But, 8x10's definitely aren't 3:2. They are more like 4:5.

I think I finally got a shot worthy enough to be sent to a pro printing lab (to hang up on my wall at my house). But, I don't know the proper aspect ratio to send it to make it easiest on the printer.

Out of my Dreb, it comes at 3:2. But, if I request an 8x10 of the shot, how will they decide what to crop? Or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance

They'll crop them by eye, trying to get what they think is the best fit for the different aspect ratio. Its probably better if you do the cropping yourself to get what you want into the image.

I strongly recommend that you crop to what *you* want the 8x10 to look like. Some of these places are pretty automated and you may not get a decent crop at all.
