C-5 Galaxy with a Nifty 50

Like the title says, a few shots with a Nifty 50 of a C-5 Galaxy doing touch and go's last week. C&C Welcome and as always, thanks for looking.

Turner, simple question (but not one I can answer!) why did you choose the nifty 50 for these shots? I bought mine primarily for indoor gym shots with lousy lighting, but I don't see the need for 1.8 ability for these shots. I would have gone with my standard 24-70L 2.8, but I am just curious why the 50. I am by no means criticizing the shots, they look great, I am just trying to figure out if I am missing out on another use for the lens.

Thanks for any advice!! (and how long were you there before security showed up??)

Those are pretty amazing to me for a nifty fifty. Of course I know that is one ginormous aircraft :-)

Thanks Madplower. To answer your question, the only real reason I took these shots with the Nifty 50 was because I am currently hosting Nifty on his world wide tour :D. I think that Nifty can be used for just about any use so long as you know that there are limits...as in this instance, there was no reach. However, since I was about 200yards outside of the flight line and the C-5 was about 200 feet up from the ground, it met my needs for the shots. I was actually close enough to filll the frame and had to actually back up from where I had originally parked. As for the SP's of the base, they never showed up. Here at this base, Lackland AFB, I was on the other side of the highway from the base. If you look at that last shot, you can see the guard rail from the access road...below that is the highway. Thanks...I agree. Love to see the C-5 flying around here. I loved when the B-52 used to fly from here after getting repairs, replacement parts or an inspection.

I was amazed my self when I got back to the computer....and that is a huge plane. Some of the crew have told me they like to play foot ball inside when they return with an empty cargo area. Thanks for looking.

The C5, what a beautiful BIG plane!! Back in my Airborne days in the 82nd I actually got a chance to jump out of a C5. Cant belive I actually survived. The C5 cant slow down like the the others (c130 / c17) so when you exit the door its like hiting a brick wall!!! I actually sprained my neck from the whip lash..

OH yeah, sorry for wondering off.. Im notorious for that. Anyway, the shots do look good! I like number 2 for some reason. Even though the plane is drop dead center in the frame.. Maybe, its becuase thats the look im used to seeing when the planes are flying overhead after dropping the troopers!

I bet that was some fun dropping out the back of a C-5.
