A friend told me today that he heard the 5D mark II will come with a built in image stabilizer and a 3:5 lens conversion which will contribute more heat to the popcorn dispenser. Im so excited!

IS will not work in Phone mode. Unfortunatly the Phone mode (PH) disables the IS and then enables the CS (Conversation Stabilizer).

And no, unfortunatly not by the rays from the sun. The popcorn will be popped using overheating from CCD sensors.

But tell me your not worried about how messy it is going to be when you go to replace the butter cartridge,,;)

Yeah I read the same press release your friend read. The only problem I see is the wattage is so high on the microwave that you'll probably end up tripping the circuit breaker when you turn on the dishwasher at the same time.

jaybird

Well, if we are lucky, they will come out with some new firmware that will allow you to change the fuse to 60amps, so you can run the dishwasher, microwave, and toaster all at the same time.

i also read that the dolby 7.1 sound system is quite accurate in reproducing the sound of a real shutter.
but my favorite feature is the heated grip, which warms your hands up when its cold.

And that would be great except I read that the weather-sealing was removed because the microwave melted the transparent aluminum they used.

It's 90 and warming, I was hoping for freon cooled hand grip that doubled as sensor chip coolant for frosty images. Laser guidance system for focus maneuvers? Eye wash?

If we get one with robotic legs we could just send it out on the job by itself and collect at payday.

Nikon batteries have been known to explode during the popping process, therefore they will supply the camera with a 20000 ft electric cord.

Speaking of Nikon, I heard that their normal owners manual will be thrown out starting in Aug. of this year, and be replaced with a book entitled "Nikon for Dummies". They found that this title was more suited for their general range of consumers. As one Nikon user reported, "It feels that Nikon is reaching out to more of its customers like me, I just wasent smart enough to get a Canon and I am glad that Nikon recognizes that some of us just dont get top of the line equipment."

CoolToolGuy
8th of April 2008 (Tue), 14:27
They also had some issues with the dual card slots and the GPS feature. Originally it was intended that the one slot was used exclusively for the satellite photos that automatically get downloaded to the camera over the wireless connection as you move around so you can always bring up a "skyshot" of where you are (so you don't get lost.) But then it went two-way, and all of the shots in the camera were getting uploaded to the DPREVIEW critique forum, including the camera owner's name, address, SSN, and complete account info for up to three credit cards. They're working on it as we speak. . .

Have Fun,

I love the new 5D's "Silencer" which drastically reduces noise when shooting.

also the handy Pepper Spray function works just like the flash system, choose your focal range, power and direct where necessary. the PSTTL (Pepper Spray Through The Lens) is quite accurate but alot of users need to compensate becasue some cornflakes also tend to spill out.

and how could i forget, instead of putting a canon logo, there is now a "Starbucks" logo.

That's not really worth any more than the other rumors. You also said he'd been there 3 months, I doubt he's hearing all the news on the latest products. And just like the other rumors, he's another "trusted insider."

There's really no real way to know, but I sure wish it would come out soon even though we shouldn't expect that.

One thing is for certain, this "April 22" rumor made many people wait and/or prevent them from jumping ship to Nikon.

jaybird
15th of April 2008 (Tue), 06:54
Well, I don't think that I would jump ship. I mean, the D300 is nice, but not that much nicer than the existing 5D. Then I would have to sell my lenses and flash. Too much hassle. I love Canon glass. Nikon has some great bodies, but realistically they just control aperture, shutter speed, and lift a mirror. I didn't forget ISO performance, but with the current 5D and the D300, you can make some serious prints.

I'm going to be a total goof and wait until D-day (April 22nd). I don't really think that anything will be announced. If nothing is, I will probably blow some cash on a 70-200 2.8 IS. Then I'll keep scrounging my shillings away until fall. Those b@astards better have something by then ;)

I won't be switching formats...but I was seriously considering adding a system.

This 22nd date has me totally reconsidering and waiting to see whats next from the 5D. Mine has been so fantastic...but digital medium format has really caught my attention too. Most notably the P25+ back.

However...a 5D taken to the next level would, in my mind, give that back a run for its money if the rumors are correct. And the fact that I could literally buy 8 or 9 5D combos for the cost of one digital back.

So for now...we wait!

Sod it, just buy a 5D if dont already own one and leave it as that. How long are people going to wait. As soon as I have enough money, im buying a 5D with or without the possibility of a newer model on its way.

If i were desperate for a new camera I'd agree with you elysium. Even if a new 5D hits it's going to cost considerably more I'm sure. I've got ~$3500 currently set aside specifically for a camera though, and the 5D doesn't offer me some of the upgrades I'm most interested in (14 bit color, improved dynamic range) so I'm holding off hoping a new one will come out with those improvements.

If you don't care so much about those or need a camera now, the current 5D is still a great camera.

(I'm also hoping the next 5D moves closer to feeling more like a 1 series, like what nikon did with the D300)

Ahhh!!!! Don't say that!! It's bad enough that my wife was reading through a recent photo magazine that I bought and asked me: "Why are you waiting for that Canon camera when Nikon just put a new one out. The article says it's really good."

And even if the April 22nd date was correct, the camera would be available for about the beginning of July (just in time for summer holidays). If there is an announcement on May 29th, it will likely be at the end of August. And if they release at the end of August, they may as well wait for Photokina

What better plan than to release in May, thus forcing Olympic shooters to go with 1Ds Mk III's/1D Mk III and have the 5D Mk II ready & on the shelves for Photokina.

The 5D Mk II is absolutely going to steal 1Ds sales, thus the reason why Canon has delayed it for so long (in hopes of at least recouping most of the R&D costs with the 1Ds).

Also, I think Canon is still testing the water with a xxD series full-frame camera.
Nikon is right around the corner from releasing a modern, sub $2000 full-frame prosumer camera.

It sure would be a shame Canon beat them to it & caught Nikon with their pants down!

You obviously come across your money too easy, therefore you have no value for it. Some people like ME are not willing to invest that much cash on an already ancient camera...I rather wait it out a few more months. This way I will be set for another 3 years. Where will your already outdated 5D be in 3 years? In the same box with old cell phones...

Actually in 3 years my 5D will be making images for my clients along side any other body im using. If it works now, it will provide the same results in 3 years!

I will probably carry it around as my body for 360-panoramas so I still have another camera "untethered" to shoot stills with.

Sorry, don't need the camera that bad. What I have works well for now. The 5d focus is too slow, the frame rate too slow, and wouldn't make sense, at least for me to purchase the 5d when the new model could be just around the corner or even a year away. My current camera has faster focus and frame rate, it is just not FF.

My daughter just brought home a Spring 2008 copy of PhotoMedia Magazine. Samy's Camera has an ad that states " Purchase a Canon 40D, 5D Mark III or 1Ds Mark III and receive a $300 mail-in rebate on a Canon PIXMA Pro9000 printer or a $350 mail-in rebate on a Canon PIXMA Pro9500." Is that a misprint? Could they have meant 1D Mark III? The ad does show a photo of a 5D without any additional markings (Mark III).

jaybird

My guess would be a misprint. I don't see how Samy's Camera would know and print something long before Canon has put anything out in print.

As well, I can't see them putting out a MarkIII when we are desperately waiting for a MarkII

I have it on very good authority that because of all the previously mentioned features, the camera will take perfect pictures every time.

Given this fact Canon have decided to do away with all modes except “A”. In fact there will be only two buttons on the new camera, one for Off and A and the other being the shutter for those who don’t want to use the voice activation shutter feature.

The lens will be new EF 5–5000mm L F0.5 USM IS, which will be permanently attached to the camera.

Advancements in miniaturization will also see the camera significantly reduced in size.

The official name for the camera will be the Canon Ixus 5DII.

hahaha! i wonder how many years it would take to have a camera like that... 100 years? 300 years? i mean, at a certain point, you'll have enough memory to just take constant 40Mb pictures at 60 frames per second with varying F-stops. I'm sure if they can make lenses out of diamond or something, it would reduce the number of elements and thus make lenses smaller.

No, that's a Ni*on tactic - they may be briefly and slightly ahead with the D3/D300, but that's no reason for Canon to take up their sleazy marketing tricks! :D

Sooo frustrating...I was just out with some photogs in manhattan last night. 2 of them had new D300's i was watching them handhold night shots of dark streets/steam vents and the like, they were laughing as they came out amazing....at ISO 3200, and 6400. Basically, i was not able to even shoot what they were shooting.

I hope your right that it is temporarily that Canon is behind...I've put a freeze on my glass buying just in case.

It doesn't really matter if its a dud date or not. I'm curious how many people that even participate in these threads would drop down cash today if it was announced no questions asked.

When it comes out, it comes out, and who ever is ready and willing will buy one. The same as it has always been. People can still make images in the mean time no different than before.

People just need something to make dramatic and be excited for. Its funny to get up in these though. Cause the moment its released, the drama will pass on to what the next unreleased body or lens is. Otherwise, these wouldn't exist!

If you've got a burning desire to shoot at ISO 3200 and above then I'm sure the limitations of the 5D must be really frustrating. Personally, as a landscape photographer (mainly) I normally shoot at ISO 100. Occasionally, for wildlife, I'll go as far as ISO 400. That's about it. I'll obviously be interested in what the new 5D has to offer but, like most photographers I suspect, higher ISO capability will not be a "must have".

Some of us really enjoy anticipating the next big thing, me included. But it's definitely the case that not everybody salivating for the 5DII would buy one immediately. If it came out now I'd want to wait a few months for all the early adopters to finish paying Canon for the privilege of beta testing their new camera for them :) I can say that for me personally, I had money set aside at the beginning of the year for a 5DII just in case it came out, but I've since upgraded my computer and picked up some glass instead, so who knows if it's even in the cards anymore for me to buy one this year even if it comes out. But if the rumored specs are true, I'd reshuffle my camera lineup in a heartbeat--do some selling, etc.--to pick up a couple of them.

Depending on the specs of the 5D, if it is close to what is rumored, i would drop the cash immediately, its already in a MM account! If this is a dud date which i think it will be (tomorrow), i dont know, can i go all summer and on vacations, around town...shooting multiple times a week with a camera i have outgrown? The D3 is really tempting... Basically, i am on the fence as to what to do...rent cameras for vacations? Hold out? Go for Noink?

Dont get me wrong, my 20D works fine, i love it, its just time for me to move on.

Good point for landscape photogs. I think some news photographers would make use of higher ISO.

I myself havent really sold much work, definitely havent marketed it, and not sure if i ever will. I like to keep my hobby and job separate. Otherwise i would be shooting what sells and not what i want to. If it was my job I would have justified the 1DsIII by now, as it is not, my price limit is just a hare below the D3.

I bet one day some years down the road, HDR will be pointless as cameras will capture all the dynamic range desired...same with ISO as they will be able to capture low amounts of light...things will be captured in 3D...with smell...etc, etc...until then...lol

True, but not quite that fast.

First we have to go through the "I waited all this time for THIS?" phase where some folks have convinced themselves that Canon wouldn't dare upgrade the camera unless it included the sacred items on their wish list.
Then we must travel through the "5D MKII is back-focusing" phase, especially after the focusing mishaps that befell the 1D MK III.There may also be new phases of sour grapes relating to some new idea or phenomenon. Then, and only then, can we cross the threshold into speculating on the Next new toy. :D:rolleyes::lol:

It was funny watching all the new specumabation that started back up after the XSi started hitting the shelves. Interestingly, people are now chomping at the bit for a 50D of all things...since the XSi bests the 40D in MP...unorthodox to say the least!

I don't see the D300 doing anything that the 5D can't...unless you were losing in the lens battle...

Agree - why not use a 5D at 3200? clean files without the detail loss and pre-nr, much cleaner output than a d300 on the digital outback photo comparison. Of course we don't know what you were shooting, but the crop Sony sensor on a d300 is not something to feel that Canon is behind on - D3 AF and other feautures on a $1799 body - that's seems more the d300 allure.

Tom - they must have seen my post saying that new 5D should be like a digital 1V (smaller body but top button layout of the 1 series, 1 Series AF, etc. - all the 1 series features sans sensor in a smaller body at a lesser price ala Nikon's lead with the D300) and said "oh crap - we missed it lads". Yes... that must be what happened. ;)

I know for a fact the reason why Canon hasn't released it yet is because they sent it to Ken Rockwell first and he himself gave the new camera a Canon sticker. Back to the drawing board they all said.

All tests have been positive except for the new feature. Canon has developed a radio-controlled helicopter support system so you no longer need a tripod/monopod. They are getting the signals mixed with the new wireless transfer device, and instead of writing the file to your laptop or other receiver the helicopter is homing in on it and attempting to protect it from intruders.

Just details, really. :-)

Hope this is a wake up call for all the people who believed in the launch of a new camera today and went on a whim. If you are really towards something with the features of a 5D, go buy a 5D!

Half of you people are being far too optimistic. If Canon release a new camera two months after you buy yours, so what.

Will it kill you? NO
Will you still be able to take photos?YES
