...I actually held a 20D in my hands for the first time. Now I lust.

I dropped by Best Buy this afternoon after all the Black Friday sales were over. And, I passed by the digital camera section, so I thought I'd stop in. This is the first time I've seen the 20D in stock at my local Best Buy. So, I had to check it out.

It looks more professional (not just because it's black), better control layouts, it feels more solidly built, the shutter sounds better...oh and I had to find a towel to wipe the drool off the floor when I turned the dial to sports mode and just held down the shutter button til the buffer filled.

WOW. This camera just seems EXCELLENT!! Why did I have to hold it in my hands?

Isn't it nice? The 20D is the first camera I've owned that's anywhere near "prosumer" grade and I must say I'm impressed. The same features you've mentioned (build, shutter, etc) are the reasons I upgraded to it.

That was probably a mistake man, now you'll be thinking about it for awhile :D

FlipsidE, you made a big mistake. I thought my 300D was very good, what's wrong with it, it works fine. And what's with people praising 20D so much?

Well, untill I used the 20D. Then all became clear.

A few weeks ago I also held a 20D in my hands in a store, and while I like the low weight I didn't like the size. I own a 10D and a 1D Mark II - the size of the 10D with battery grip is perfect for me and the 1D a bit too large. The 20D didn't feel substantial enough for my hands. I guess I could learn to live with it as the performance looks great, but the tactile part of photography is important.

because this is my first DSLR. I absolutely love the 20D. Despite all the negative stuff about the 17-85IS lens, I bought that too.

What I can say is this camera is ready when I want to shoot a picture, fouces quickly, can take a bunch of photos in a short time. The quality is excellent, even in low light without flash.

Sometimes when you encounter a product, it feels or looks well made. Our Kitchanaid mixer, our Toyota, and this camera fit this profile.

I probably won't buy another camera for a long time. My 20D should suffice.

Now, let's talk about lenses :D

I know what you mean. I was perfectly happy with my 10D until my best friend bought a 20D.

Take a look at my signature, you see what happened to me. :)

Same here, had a 10D and just bought the 20D to have the lastest & greatest. But I can't believe have much more of a camera the 20D is, and honestly I was getting quite a few more "soft" shots from the 10D. Which I always thought was kinda strange considering I am using nothing but L lenses, But now that I have the 20D I can't believe how sharp my shots are.........granted I had a learning curve to digital regarding the old....."I'm shoting with a 200, so I need to be at least 200th"........I've gotten better at the math now....LOL. But I honestly believe the focusing on the 20D to be much better than the 10D, and the B&W with the differents tones are very fun to play with........and quite handy. I also enjoy have the Rebel settings (Parameter 1) already in the camera, the instant on is a plus, and I am stoked that I DON"T HAVE TO WAIT for the image to sharpen up like I did the 10D.........that drove me nuts  ......something you Rebel owners don't have to deal with.
Well I could go on, and on, but better yet........just buy one their great!!

I saw a picture of a 1D MkII once. It was on onecall.com's web site, right next to the button that said "add to cart". I don't have to tell you what happened next. And I'm glad that it did. :)

Sales reps will do anything to sell

The rep at henry's in Ottawa couldn't wait to get the 20D into my hands, had the wrong S lens though (Sigma).

Got to say I was not impressed.

Was not very substantial, AV was slow (lens) and the deal just did not touch my D60.

So Flipside, shoot what you got or go REAL big.

You want the 1D MKII

How do owners of the 1d Mark II hide that big camera so well? I was recently walking along Central Park West in the 70s with my family and a taxicab burst in flames. Naturally, my camera, which I always take to the City, was in my car about 20 blocks away. You see, we were on our way back from seeing the Broadway play Chicago and I didn't think they would allow me to bring in the camera bag so I left it in the car.

However, within what seemed like seconds of the flames leaping to the sky from the cab, tires bursting one after the next, freelance photogs, paparazzi, etc, were on the scene with their 1d Mark IIs, 1dses, etc, snapping away. Where were they hiding them up to then? And how?
