Had this question since my 1st digicam (G3). They say that type I (CF cards) are interchangeable with type II (micro-drives). But MD's are thicker than CF's. How will they both fit in the same slot?

The slots made for both types are thicker, and the upper part of the slot is slightly narrower than the slots made for Type I only. When you insert a Type I card, it goes into the lower (wider) part of the slot.

Hope this helps.

CF cards are type1, MD are type2.

Type2 (MD) is thicker than type1.

If a Camera will only accept type1,. then it won't take a microdrive.

However,. as Rick describes, you can put the thinner type1 into a slot large enough to accept type2.

Just for trivia there are a few CF II cards that are not micro drives. They tend to be the very high end of available to the consumer. Think 4and 8MB CF cards.

A fine example by Lexar is here.

However, please note based on Rob Galbraith's CF database for 1DsMkII, I will probably be sticking to Sandisk which to date are all CF I.

Gotta love those high-end 8mb cards ;-)
