View Full Version : Minimalist Sunset for your Critique

I have often gotten lucky with sunsets from airplanes. My last trip back from Seattle was no exception. This was taken somewhere over the San Gabriel Mountains (I believe over Victorville) headed down into orange county. There was a low overcast that socked in the entire valley all the way up to the San Gabriels.

I was using the G-9 through the cabin glass, and this is what I came up with. Not quite sure about the curvature, at that altitude am certain that it is not curvature of the Earth! Most likely barreling from the widest possible angle the G-9 can deliver.

Hope you like it, and critique is always welcomed.

I like the illusion of the distortion being curvature of the earth :p

Very interesting shot.

Very nice. I like the way the dark orange lays across the horizon.

Clone out the two flares above the sun and the false sun due to the double pane windows and I think you've got a definate keeper!

You really think I should take them out? That is part of what I like about the shot! Hard to describe, but it makes it feel somehow more "real" - after all, I only see high altitude sunsets through cabin glass, and the reflections/refractions are part of it. Kind of like when lens flare is an integral part of the shot.

Anyone agree?
