View Full Version : Nikon Users in Canon Boards and Vice versa

I was wondering, I know there are few people here that shoot Nikon and Canon and couple of regulars that shoot Nikon only. I was wondering for the Nikon exclusives, how is that like, that everyone in the forum speaks of equipment that is irrelevant or something you are not interested in?

I know the bottom line of course are the photos, and the principles are the same whether you shoot Nikon or Canon, but with the strong rivalry that some folks have- sometimes to the point of fanboyhood, is it still entertaining to visit a mostly Canon or exclusive Canon site? Share you experiences. Very curious since the net do spawn some characters every now and then, also...I've been wondering about this for a few minutes now...If we refer to Nikon as "Noinks" and the owners as "Nikonians" what are we called in those forums.

Then, on the other side of the coin, any Canon owners visit and join Nikon exclusive sights? How's that like?

Please let's have fun doing this, only post if you can be light-hearted and easy going about this topic, if you are an overwhelmed Fanboy, please refrain from posting, let's keep it in good fun and civil. We can do that, right?

I can't speak for anyone else. But if I was to guess why a Nikon shooter spent time on this forum I would have to say it's because this is a great forum. Regardless of what equipment you use. People who don't use Canon probably don't spend much time in the lens and camera forums (unless it is to stir the pot).

There have been so many threads on here complaining about the attitude of other forums. Sure we have the occasional squabble but 99.9% of the time we all support each other.

Agreed, this place is one of the greats for sure. But I bet some Nikon-exclusive shooters will venture in the Gear columns...maybe some might be persuaded? :p Or if they are looking to change? Maybe?

Well, Nikonians official policy is that you must own, or be actively planning the purchase of, Nikon gear. IOW, they don't want us lousy Canon shooters. POTN, OTOH, is open to all. Draw your own conclusions . . .

Anyone who owns or plans to buy Nikon photography equipment may register at Nikonians, i.e. if you do not own and do not plan to buy Nikon equipment, you must not register. (http://www.nikonians.org/html/about/terms_of_use.html)

Kinda proves my point.

This is a great forum and it's not because of Canon. Overall the attitude is fantastic. You just have to make sure you don't C&C the wrong peoples pictures.

We can always "plan" to buy...LOL weird, can it be that some of our "brethren" has been inciting trouble in the Nikonian camp? Maybe?

Ed Malone was invited to leave . . . but the policy was in place when he joined, and that's why they booted him.

Weak, I will second Lucy's remark...how rude.

Back when I was looking for my second digital camera, I was considering the Canon Powershot G2 and the Nikon Coolpix 995. I was even looking at an Ikelite housing for it.
At the time, Ikelite only made a housing for the Nikon. I wrote them and asked them why. They replied that they built housings for people who wanted quality shots, and they couldn't make housings for ALL cameras.
I told them they need to open their eyes.

I bought the G2, and still have it. I use it when I don't take out the DSLR, and I have never looked back. An added bonus is that the battery is interchangeable with my 20D.

By the way, Ikelite DID open their eyes, and they built a housing for the G2.

So, since I did consider a Nikon camera around six years ago, does that count?

That's none too friendly. I can understand not wanting pesky evil-doer internet trolls around, but the "members only" policy is just going to keep membership low, IMO. Thank God that POTN is photog-friendly, not just Canon-Fanboy friendly.

:)

Maybe, you can sign up and try...in any case you can always say you are "considering" selling your Canon gear and buying Noink gear...you can probably keep that up for a few years!

I agree. I guess Nikon users are the elite? Best in their own minds? LOL

Man, wonder what the criteria is to be able to critique their photos? ;)

Not only is Nikonians.org exclusive to Nikon users, they have a free "plan" but encourage you quite strongly to buy into a more substantial one...starting at $25 a year all the way up to $200 a year.

No bother though...their color scheme makes my eyes bleed anyway.

LOL... not a massager. They are these little toys my girl has. They came from some kids meal or something. She has about 15 of them of all varying colors. Calls them Freakies. I think they are cool. I'm going to do a series with them I think.

Well, I was MIA for about 3 months. No computer.

I'll get a pic up soon. I've been contemplating it for sure. LOL!

The studio. Bleh..... I was dreaming too big too fast. I have the building still, but I haven't done anything yet. I might one day, but right now I'm still just having fun.

Having 3 kids in sports this time of year doesn't leave much time for anything else really.

It's nuts huh? I've got 8 yr old twin boys and my girl is going to be 7 in June. It's a mad house around here. We've got 2 in soccer and one in baseball so that's 6 practices and 4 games a week. :D

You can change this to a white/grey background and blue text, much easier on the eyeballs :-)
I've been a member since 2004, but have only posted forty odd times, but I do have an old(ish) Nikon F100 so I 'qualify' ;)

I've always found the place pretty friendly although very pro Nikon, which is what you'd expect really...

I'm down like a clown for the old nikon MF lenses. I had two (now only one) and two nikon/EOS chipped adapters. The 35/1.4 is a nice lens and cheap (even the old AI ones) and I have been considering a portrait lens from the old Nikon bin. The optical quality on some of their lenses is very good, and between Contax and Nikon, you could make a functional collection of very sharp lenses for use with a Canon body. ;)

After my S3IS, I switched to Nikon. Why?- it simply felt better in my hand. I visit this forum at least 3 times a week. A lot to be learned here but I never posted because I shoot noink. I have PM'd a few here for more info but thought if I posted I would be bashed. Maybe I will post and see what happens. BTW, most in our local photo club shoot Canon so once again, I'm in the minority. I also bought a Harley way back before they were cool. I can never get it right...but I'm happy! ;-)

Met, you should never be afraid to post. There are some people here that is very helpful, regardless of what gear you have, just don't post it in the Canon gear forums...that would sort be like "asking for it". Otherwise, this board has no rules of brand exclusivity. Or if you rather prefer a more general board with equally as helpful people; most of them are members here as well; you can try out Photo Camel (http://photocamel.com/forum/).

Except for few groups in this forum, equipment brand doesn't play big role. With business section, talk about photography and sport photo sharing section, where I spend most, if not all, my time on POTN, equipment doesn't play any role. Yeah I shoot Canon, but even if I would be shooting Nikon, I guess I would think same. You can get some great feedback (at least in previously mentioned groups), even if you are not using particular equipment. And personally, I almost never lurk into equipment talk section, even though I use Canon.
So I don't see anything bad or inappropriate for Nikon users to be here... afterall it's about photography not brand name, or? :)
