Okay, I bought the new canon s200, 4 days old, my wife drops it and shatters the LCD. The optics seem fine because it still takes great pictures but I'm thinking I'm going to replace the lcd myself because last time (2 years ago) canon wanted $200 to replace it so I just upgraded cameras.
I'm a tech guy so I figure if I can dismantle a laptop then I can replace this thing. I've read in the forums that some of you have done this type of replacement, even taken photos of your experiences. Any information that can be shared would be most helpful. I'm going to call the canon parts department to get the screen unless someone has another idea.
Thanks for all your help.

Go for it. Its a piece of cake. Just don't lose any of the tiny screws while you're working on it.
I also recommend wearing an anti-static bracelet as you work on it. I've done it many times without and haven't damaged any components, but why take the chance.

Yeah, I just replaced my LCD on my SD110, it was a 20 minute job. The LCD cost me $28. Can you believe the nerve of Canon Service to charge this much! I was outraged until I got the number to the Canon parts department. I also have a SD200, can you post how much the LCD cost is when you get it?
See my post here for the number:

Just wanted to mention that there are 2 parts to the LCD assembly, the LCD itself & the backlight unit. You will save some $$ if you know which component you need. By default, the parts center will sell you the whole assembly unless you ask otherwise.
Good luck.

That's right. Also, make sure the kid on the other end of the phone has it right and reads your order back to you- including what camera you are buying for. I ordered an LCD for my SD110 and first got the entire unit (backlight and all) for a S100. They changed it out, but it took another 3 days.
If your screen lights up and all you can see is digital madness, then all you should need is the LCD.
Don't forget to post the cost, I'm real interested at what this bigger LCD would cost me if I broke it.

$68 dollars with shipping...Took about 3 weeks to get because it was over xmas. Now, I've got pieces all over my kitchen table and no idea how to get this thing installed because canon has made it difficult with the SD200. Does anyone have any pics or advice?

BC,
I have the same problem with an SD300. Did you get the screen installed correctly, and if so, can you post any advice on how to do so? I'm hesitant to order the screen until I know I can install it.

That's why everyone should learn how to do it ourselves. $200 to install a $68 screen that takes 15 minutes to do? Blasphamy.

I have posted instructions for replacing a broken, cracked LCD screen on the Ixus 40 / Powershot SD-300 on my web page. I assume that this technique will be the same for the Ixus 30 / Powershot SD-200 and Ixus 50 / Powershot SD-400. I have also given approximate prices and phone numbers for obtaining the screen. Good luck to all who try!

I just got done replacing the LCD screen on my uncles SD300 camera using the instruction provided by andyo. Thank you sir for a Great write up!
I also took some pics of the process. If anyone would like to see them, email me at mannyz at pacbell.net The written guide worked great but I think it's nice to see some pics as well to know what you're getting into. You need to have good eyesight as this is very intricate work :) One tip I would like to add is if you fold a piece of scotch tape in half (with a lil sticky left at the end) you can feed it through the crack first and use it to pull the LCD cable through behind it.

Anyone replace the LCD screen, get it plugged in and all and still have a white screen? This is my problem now although the rest of the repair went very well; except that it still doesn't work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

tfjohnst - as andyo has stated in his write up, the white screen is most likely caused by the connector not being fully/correctly seated into the socket.

I have a similar problem with a canon 300d camera, I dropt something on the LCD screen and broke the display and backlight. Can anyone tell me were I can get these parts, I’m looking for a shop that can deliver in Holland but I can’t find it.
