Was curious, what is the camera bag you like the most if you want a bag that can fit 1 body and 2 lenses? It's ok if it's a little more expensive. Thanks!

I use a Domke F-803 - in that I can fit a camera body (no grip or 1-series), 24-70L with hood, 50mm 1.4 with hood and 135L with hood. If you want you can also fit a 580EX or two in the front pouches if you don't want to bring any accessories.

It's a very low-key bag, doesn't look like a camera bag and is quite comfortable to use and walk around with. Comes with a nice, grippy strap.

Domke F-5X. It's small, but fits my 5D with 24-70 with hood reversed. Now, it won't fit another lens in there, but I don't need. Jon says I could fit the 50 in there, but why? If you are looking at a bag that can hold another lens, the above mentioned Domke bag is nice. I like the rugged canvas bags better than the plastic-like ones, sturdier and doesn't scream "CAMERA BAG!" to everyone.

I'd take a look at Thinktank Urban Disguise 30 or Change Up if you are willing to spend over $100. Otherwise I really like Tamrac Velocity 3 messenger bag for under $100.

i'm using the domke F2-B ballistic bag
To me, its not a very big camera bag, just nice for me
can put a 5D with grip, or a 1D mk 2 with a lens (usually 16-35mk1)
besides that, a 50 F1.4 on top of a sigma fisheye 15mm 2.8
plus a 85 F1.8 lens next to it
at the side pouch, my 580ex mk 2
on the other pouch is the 16-35 hood , 50 hood and 85 hood.
Front pouch is my accessories - like my psp and mp3 player, lenspen, lenscap

comfortable to carry , even after walking thru town on a hot sunny day. :D

I'm using a Domke f3xb. Holds my gripped XT with Sigma 24-60 attached w.hood. and my 70-200 f4L in one of the inserts. Rocket blower in other insert. Cactus trigger and receiver in box inside main compartment. Sunpak 383 in one of the outside pockets. iPod, phone, misc crap in the other outside.

Works great for my NYC ramblings.

I use the Domke F-3x. Camera (including the 1D3), couple of lenses (24-70 f/2.8 and 70-200 f/2.8 even) and a bit of room left over for such other stuff as you may want along.

I'd probably go with a Billingham 225.
Then again, I already have a 335 (http://www.moonglade.net/~rene/Billingham335.jpg) and 445 (http://www.moonglade.net/~rene/POTN/Billingham445.jpg), so I'm a bit biased...
Domke is okay as well ;)

Great suggestions! Keep them coming! I'm going to check them all out. Just so you know I have a 40D with a 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS lens. Looking to buy a 30-35mm prime lens shortly. Although not a major factor if the bag looks good as well that's a plus for me.

I just purchased a 4MDH at Circuit City and I think its going to be perfect for times when I dont want to take everthing with me. I was not going to buy it at first but they had it on clearance for less than $30 so I got it. It will hold my 40D with the 17-55mm f/2.8 mounted w/hood attached, with out the hood I think that another small lens or speed light would also fit inside this bag.

So since the 17-55mm is larger and longer than a 17-85mm you would have no trouble with a 4MDH.

Going to check out the Crumpler West Village store here in NYC after work today. Excited. Thanks for all your suggestions!

Someone bought a lunch box from target. I'll see if I can find the link.

I have kids so I use an old diaper bag. The kids are all trained so the diapers are for padding.

That is so cool that you have a store in your area where you can check the Crumplers out in person. Its been trial and error for me and the Crumplers.

Before I ran across the 4MDH I had ordered a 6MDH to handle all my photo gear, I got it a few days ago and I will be sending it back because I think its too close to the size of the Canon Gadget Bag that came bundled with my 40D - and not nearly as nice (IMO) and wont be as easy to work out of when I have it loaded up.

I did however place a second order for the 5MDH, its out for delivery(UPS) right now - the 5MDH is not much bigger than the 4MDH and will probly be more of the "walk around" size I am looking for. If it works out I will probably be posting the 4MDH for sell in the "Marketplace".

Definitely going to check it out. I think the 4MDH is probably the right size (sort of a small messenger bag) but I might go with the 5MDH if I find the 4MDH a little too small. Anything smaller and it will look like I am walking around with a man purse...haha.

They also do custom bags which I am kind of excited to see.

Two places that I buy camera bags; camera shops and pawn shops, they both have "garbage boxes" with bags and straps in them.

Ok big_apple_ken my 5MDH has arrived and it is going to be a perfect "walkaround camera bag" for me - exactly the size I was looking for ~ it holds my 40D + two lenses (w/Tokina 50-135mm mounted (5.3" long) or the 17-55mm mounted) I have all the hieght, depth, and width I need and I think there is even room enough left for a speedlite but I wont be sure untile I buy one -

I also ordered the shoulder pad for a extra $15 and I'm glad I did because although the shoulder strap is wide it needs that extra padding for comfort.

Sounds good. I can't wait to go to the Crumpler store to check it out after work today. Shoulder pad is a good idea as long as it is not too bulky.

The shoulder pad is not too bulky - and uppon further inspection, I see that I would have to leave the hood off the 17-55mm for a speedlite or another smaller lens to also fit in side of this 5MDH.

So is the 6MDH better then? At least for my novice purposes I think the 5MDH should be fine. Thanks for the tip on the pad.

Well today I have a 4, 5 and 6MDH in my possesion. If I had a Rebel then I would keep the 4MDH - in comparison the 5MDH is just a 1" wider and the depth is 1" more, but the height is the same as the 4MDH - personally I like the 5MDH better because even if I just want to carry my 40D w/one lens mounted I wont need to carry a purse for my "girly" extras. The small difference in the sizes of the 4 and 5MDH is just enough for the larger DSLR's with out a grip.

Now that 6MDH is 2.5" wider, 2" taller, and the depth is 1.5" more than the 5MDH - the 6MDH looks a lot bigger than the 5MDH but if you plan to use a grip on your 40D it will be the size you will need - but for me its too big and bulky for a days outing.

I would not want to carry it and a purse anywhere.

I just bought a bag from Target. Awesome! I love it, just need your own inserts but the pockets are great, looks casual, although wy would a guy carry a bag like this in the first place idk.

I'll get pics up as soon as I can, but it's the best bag by far save my 7MDH.

I use the Domke J-3. I got it about 3 weeks ago and love it. It holds my 40D with the 17-55 f/2.8 IS on the body, 70-200 F4L, 100mm f/2.8 Macro in the main compartment. There is actually room to stuff my 28mm f/1.8 in there, but I don't need to.

I can fit my 580EX2 and fullsize Giottos rocket blower in one of the ends. All my filters (ND, CPL, step rings, lens pens, etc) in the other end. Spare CF cards (in a case), bounce cards, spare batteries, etc in the front compartment. I still have room for more stuff (more filters to come, I'm sure).

It is very sturdy, everything is very handy, I am often in odd positions on the ground and I can reach for and grab whatever I need by feel now.

Domke F-3x... just got mine in last week and I'm very happy with it. Great bag to take along for smaller shoots

I use an x-mart lunch pail for walking around. It costs about $8.00 or so. It is padded/insulated. It will hold my 40D without a grip, with a Sigma 18-200 OS with hood NOT reversed in the bottom compartment, and a 580EX flash in the top compartment. There is a net pocket on the outside for a few spare batteries or a granola bar, and a net pocket on the inside for spare cards. If I reverse the hood, I can also fit in a Fong LS2PJ diffuser with dome. If I leave the diffuser and flash at home, I can carry another lens such as my Sigma 30mm f/1.4.

For when I want to look cooler than carrying a lunch bag, and don't want the attention of a bag that says "camera inside" I will carry my CC Filson Medium Field bag using a small towel for padding. I am in the process of making some padded compartments for that bag. I tried Domke inserts but they are too thick. My 40D with grip and a 70-200 f/2.8 will fit in this messenger type bag--and it screams "rugged" and does not say "camera inside".

I use a Crumpler 7MDH - just about all my gear lives in it, so I just grab it on my way out and decide what to shoot with when I get there. It gets heavy with all the gear, but the bag is still comfortable and easy to work out of. Still - I've got to learn to prioritize one of these days...

For my everyday carry bag I use a Crumpler 6MDH. It fits my gear perfectly and isn't too large and bulky.

I just spent 2 weeks trying to make this decision myself. After reading as many POTN posts as possible I decided on the 5mdh from Crumper. Got it today - it's perfect for what I need.

My plan is to carry my 40d with 17-55 attached along with a 10-22 and a smaller lens - 50 or 85 depending on the situation. I also found out I can fit my tele (I've got a little 70-300) as one of the 3 lenses in the bag at one time.

Pretty cool little bag...

5th of May 2008 (Mon), 21:52
Yes it is and yes it can. Surprisingly large I'm sad I gave it up. Although I may have still sold it as it did not dot he main thing I wanted. Have my 70-200 attached to my camera.

bjannsen
5th of May 2008 (Mon), 21:55
Yup - I can see that the 5mdh won't fit a 70-200 attached. It sure would if it was another 1" deeper. Might be a good thing for Crumpler to consider.

_aravena
5th of May 2008 (Mon), 22:00
Especially considering the only bag that will decently is the 7MDH. I'm surprised the 6MDH wasn't made just that much deeper.

Having a tele attached is very important, it's why I chose the bag I did.
