I googled it...

It doesn't review great, but not horribly either.

Nope - sorry I should have noticed that before posting the link. They're different.

This may be like comparing apples and oranges, but there was a thread recently about the Tamron 28-300mm and it was just awful. Hopefully the 28-200mm is not nearly as bad because it does not try to cover as much of a range (7x vs. 10+x).

Don't waste your money. I bought this lens when I was new to SLR photography and got sucked into it because of its handy 'walking around' range. It's not God-awful, but you'll grow out of it really quickly and will probably have problems getting rid of it. I paid approx $300 and couldn't sell it back to the same dealer I bought it off 6months prior for $80. It was in perfect condition. ended up swapping it for a 28mm prime lens. Never looked back since.

There are better buys for the $$$

You can check out my galleries. A lot were taken with the Tamron. I only started getting frustrated with it when I tried out better glass - like the 28-135 IS.

The 28-200 Tamron is the only Tamron lens I still have..... it is nothing like as bad as their 28-300 which I also had and got rid of very quickly! The 28-300 was terrible..... I found the 28-200 to be much better and better than the Canon 28-200 version but with slightly less contrast. It was not as good as Canons 28-135 however. It focuses slower than the Canon lenses but is a nice small lens. For the price I don't think it's too bad - just depends how sharp you want your pictures!

I have a 6 year old version of the Tamron 28-200 and it has served me quite well. It is a great "backcountry" lens where you need a lot of coverage but can only spare so much pack space and need to keep weight down. I have sold several images taken with this lens.

This thread really helped me thanks guys! I just recently purchased the Tamron XR IF Super Zoom lens off of Ebay.
