What do you prefer as a white balance target and why?

I'm in the market for one and could use some help. I was considering one of Ed Pierce targets but is there any othere to consider?http://www.photovisionvideo.com/store/shop.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=DCT

The Photovision targets are really very cleverly designed and allow you to accurately set exposure as well as white balance. I recently got the 14" version and am very pleased with the results. The price may seem wacky for a 14" square of cloth but it does solve two problems elegantly and conveniently.

I got one of Ed's WB targets at his lighting seminar a few weeks ago and it will probably work just fine but I have not been able to play the instructional DVD that came with it on any of the DVD players that I have. It just skips and stutters.

I normally use either a plain old (really old) Kodak grey card and/or a Gretag MacBeth ColorChecker (like this one - XRite is a new owner of the product) (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/465286-REG/Xrite_MSCCC_Original_ColorChecker_Card.html).

Mine has Kodak Color Control strips bonded to the sides as a "bonus".

I use the WhiBal Card (http://www.pictureflow.com/products/whibal/index.html) always. It is a bit pricey, but well made, it can get wet and will still work (try that with a kodak grey card).

Also, the kodak grey cards lose their color rapidly, they are too damn big, and just not easy to use.

The Whibal is plastic, small, comes with a laynard which really helps as you can hang it just about anywhere you shoot.

+3 for the target...I really like ours. The video was very instructive on the best ways to use it.

Depends on whether you want it for studio use or on the go. I had a whibal-6 first, bought it based on the glowing comments on potn. However, I pretty much carry my lowepro offtrail1 as my primary bag and carry only what fits in there most of the time. Once I started using the whibal-6, I realized my issues with it. I sometimes just forget to carry it!!

I have since started using http://precisioncaps.com/ and am never without a whibal source as long as I have the two lens caps I have stuck them on. The precision-cap is a bit shiny and one should be more careful about specularity than when using whibal-6 or the like. My thread detailing why I switched is at http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=450104. (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=450104)
