Got a 300D, had it for over 2 months now, without a problem. Went to download some images off it last nite, and it starts tellin me that there is no camera connected to the computer. Ive tried deleting all the canon drivers, and reinstalling them - but still no go. in the device manager i get this message

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)"

Ive even tried formating the whole hard drive twice and im still getting errors. anyone got any idea wat to do now?

With Windows XP, some things can be "rolled back" to when they worked previously. Also, you might want to think about what you changed between when it worked previously and when it "broke".

Until you solve the problem, you know the work around: card reader.

I never succeded in connecting my 10D to the PC correctly to download the images - so instead I just bought the cheapest card-reader I could find. Never been happier since 8)

Did you have enough battery power ?
What program do you use to download ?

I had a similar problem with the Zoom Browser program.
Zoom Browser didn't detect my camera.
I Downloaded my pics with the Windows XP wizzard, it detected my camera
If this works, your pics are safe!
Then I formatted my SD card again and I could download via Zoom Browser again.

1. You won't be able to use the keyboard remote technique of firing the camera unless connected via USB.

2. USB-connected transfer will require the camera to be turned on, and the battery will be draining during that session.

3. Card readers tend to be quicker for file transfer than the USB/camera.

I bought a card reader - and the firstv time I put my 1G microdrive in, the drive crashed. The shop said the drive must be faulty, so before putting in my 2nd drive, I downloaded from the camera - OK. Put my microdrive in & again it crashed - just sat there making horrible whining noises. I sent both drives & reader back to supplier of reader. They said the reader was faulty & that my drives were suffering from 'sticky head syndrome'.Refund on reader; both drives came back working, with the same data on both (lost all my holiday pics)!
But they now both work fine. My camera supplier has never heard of this 'syndrome'.
Does it exist?

You also won't be able to set the Camera Information (including owner name), which will be embedded in all your photos as well as stored in the camera.
