Ok, I would really like a tripod like the Gitzo GT-530. Very small, compact, perfect for shooting Macro and to travel with.
My problem? The GT-530 is $300+....stupidly expensive for how small it is (it is more expensive than even other standard size Gitzos!).
So does anyone know any good alternatives that are cheaper? It does not look like Manfrotto has anything similar sadly...:(

Assuming you mean GT0530? If thats the case I have one and must say its very sturdy for its compact size. Fitted mine with a Markins Q3 ball head which makes it a perfect combo for a light weight hiking set up, right at 3 lbs total.

I was actually talking about the GT-530:

But thanks for the info on the GT0530
I dont get why the GT-530 is so much, it is tiny! Not much material at all.

Ok, I came across this as an alternative:

Not as small, or CF, but it seems nice. Anyone use it before? Its also MUCH cheaper :p

I would recommend the Giotto's GB-1060 as an alternative to the Gitzo GT-530, rather than the Slik Sprint Mini:

While the Slik will go much higher, you didn't say you were looking for height, but compactness and portability. With its 4-section legs, split column, thumbscrew column lock, and 1/4-20 head mounting thread, the Slik may not be as sturdy.
The Giotto's has 2 leg sections (the top one 20mm diameter), a one-piece column, and a locking collar on the column (a knock off of the Gitzo style collar). Rather than just a 1/4-20 head mount, it has a reversible 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 mounting stud (again, from Gitzo). Add to that twisting sand-proof leg locking system (rather than clumsy flip-locks), and you can see it's quite a bit more sophisticated than the Slik, and still way less expensive than the Gitzo.
The Giotto's is more compact than the Slik when folded (13 inches vs. 14.2), and it can handle 2 more pounds of load. It's about the same weight as the Slik (.1 pounds lighter).
