Answers the age old question.
Mac vs. PC
Mac best, according to the mag.
Also, a good article about plane spotters and their cameras.
:p

I have thought Macs were better for a while with the exception of two things:
1) Availability of games
2) Availability of pirated software

If you are happy with the selection of games available, or just don't care, and are one of the people that pays for all of your software then I would vote Mac every time.

I am surprised, didn't think that the differences were that pronounced.
But this kind of a decision is made probably once in your life, at least for the older among us.
Once you learn an OS and you are satisfied, why change, why learn a new one?

But then I'm 65y/o and PS is a difficult enough learning curve.

Isn't this the same magazine that in the late fifties predicted that within 10 or 15 years, we would be all be using small personal aircraft and that the automobile would be gone?;)

I think people aren't posting because no one can be bothered with another religious debate when we all know we are all wrong.

The simple fact is the BBC is still the best.

.the one fact that Macsnobs just cannot get away from, is that there IS a certain amount of proprietary software that simply is not MADE for Macs. I used to be envolved with installing, setting up, and programming two way radio, special telecom terminal equipment, and Motorola E911 dispatch equipment and phone systems. NONE of that software would run on a Mac.

Why wouldn't they run on a Mac?

Is there a link to the "Plane Spotters" article?

I couldnt find a link but there is 6 pages covering the plane spotting cult in the May 2008, "Rebuilding America" issue. Aside from camera dweebs (like myself) there are registration geeks with binocs! Transistor radios with tower frequencies! (like myself)
Guys who know every registration:rolleyes: (like myself)
Its such a good mag. :D

I get a regional flying-related magazine each month from being a member of the Arizona Pilot's Association and they had a little blurb about plane spotters as well.

Interesting to find out that one particular flight school down in Tucson, AZ books something like 6 to 8 flights a year by "Plane Spotters" who want to have a peek at the military "Bone Yard" at Davis Monthan AFB and the civilian storage area at Marana, AZ.

I love watching and shooting aircraft but I've never been all that interested in logging what I've seen. Good on 'em for their dedication...

With a few simple adjustments, Vista can be made to run quite snappy. One writer at ZDNet did some tests that showed Vista running faster than XP.

For me, my Office 2007 apps do load faster on Vista than on the same machine running XP.

Dump the visual "features" in Vista and use Classic Mode, and have 2 gig of ram, and you will be happy.

And it ain't all sunshine and roses over there in Mac land. They have their own problems, too.

Vista on a custom built PC is quite good. OEMs seem to be messing it up a lot still.

If I ever upgrade my laptop, I'd like to get a Mac and learn how to use it.

Do I think Macs are faster, more reliable? Yes, well maybe not to the extent before, but still yes.

Can I do more, for cheaper (or free) on a PC? Hell yeah!

Brand wars are so pre-Y2K...They're just depressing because they're fueled by so much misinformation.

That is exactly what marketing is all about.
It is the propaganda in the war for our $.

I used to have a preference due to the fact that I currently work for Intel, and right this very second, I am in a Class 1 cleanroom. This is where I keep the processing equipment running, and process the wafers when all of my tools are Up for Production (as they are now).

However, now that Apple got smart and started using our chips, I may turn to the dark side and try a Mac.

Go up to the PM home page and drill down from there. That's how I found it here (http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/air_space/4261265.html).

Mac > PC, assuming you don't do much with your computer. For all things useful and relevant, PC >> Mac. I live with both, and I'll tell you my Apple iPod Touch is more useful than my wife's Apple iMac.
