When i got my body i got two used batteries that came with it. They would last long so then i got some ebay batteries, anyway. I just had a chance to use one of the ebay batteries for the first time. It deflinatly didnt last long.
Battery is full i put it in and it shows a full battery life after 300 L jpg the battery life drops to the last bar. With the last bar i was able to fill up the remainder of my cards 16gigs and then it died.
Now, is the 1ds known to be a battery eater? Or is somthing up that i should look into? I wsnt expecting more than half of the battery to be eaten before finising one 4 gig card you know.
Yes i'm sure ebay batteries are not the best but i have had the same issue with the canon brand batteries.

That's not typical. Have you ever used the "Refresh" button on your charger? Give that a shot.

16 gigs of JPEGs is quite a good count. Sounds like you got a typical number of images out of the battery, albeit with a low bar indicator most of the time.

They're probably using cheap cells in the ebay batteries. Screw open the NP-E3 battery case and you'll find 10 bog standard 1.2v AA cells lined up in there. Simply throw away the cheap rubbish and replace with 10 high quality items that you source yourself.

^ Or just buy a decent battery in the first place. ;)

I tried this. It's not as straightforward as you make it sound. I tore the battery apart, saw what I had to re-do, tossed it in the trash, walked over to my computer, and ordered a new battery.

All 1 series batteries have AA batteries in them. Even the Canon ones.
I have the eBay batteries, they work better than the Canon ones. If you take the end caps off the Canon batteries and put them on the ebay battery you're set.
Sat the 1Ds Mk.I ate batteries. The 1Ds Mk.II does not.
Come over one day and we'll charge your battery with my charger. You'll see.

My Canon batteries last longer than any of the brand X versions that I have tried. Too bad Sterlingtek doesn't have batteries for 1D series bodies.

My only concern with aftermarket batteries is the sealing... I don't like to leave something like that up to a cheap copy. :/

I've used after market batteries in my 1DsII. The only issue I had was with proper fit. Some were too snug, some a bit loose. But the battery life was never an issue. I can shoot all day long on a hectic set, thousands of images, and still walk away with excess battery life. She shoot at a more leisurely pace, say 500 images a day, I can go for days.
I'm not just opening up the Canon cases, and replacing the cells with high quality high capacity cells, rather than buying new batteries.
