Went walking along the Lehigh River yesterday afternoon. I took several shots of the Bethlehem Steel Blast Furnaces. The Steel Mill is now closed, and they are currently working on the site putting in a casino.

The shot was taken with a canon 30D w/ a 24-105L. I did the post processing using Lightroom 2. The three shots are the original, post processing using lightroom 2 (beta) and the a BW conversion

The B/W version looks 'industrial' the most, Tom. The leaves/twigs at the foreground distracts a bit though.

Good eye for a super industrial looking site.
Merits exploration, especially before they knock it down and put up a casino.
Good shooting.

Thanks BottomBracket for the comments. I agree with you about the twigs, however there were trees lining the shore, and all were hanging down to the water, so this was the best of the series.

Its an interesting looking place to be ! But it seems like your camera was set to a evaluative metering mode? It overcompensated for they sky and made the center parts of the furnace stacks too dense. A quick global adjustment would be to add some fill light adjustment in acr. Or re-shoot and spot meter off the furnace. Also, i don't really agree with the composition. I would say choose the river or the sky to complement your subject, not both. Basic "rule of thirds" theory. If you find that the subject brightness range "SBR" is more than a five stop difference you can shoot a 3-7 series bracket and merge to HDR. I would suggest using photomatix over photoshop for HDR

Thanks Blazon for the constructive feedback. I'll go down and reshoot based on your suggestions.
