View Full Version : WORLD WIDE PHOTO WEEK: PART 110 -- Flower

BLS
27th of April 2008 (Sun), 18:04
The theme for this week is "Flower." Interpret this any way you like, as different and unusual interpretations are always welcome.

Here are the rules:

1. Shots need to be taken between sunrise Monday and sunset the following Sunday. Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives. Crummy shots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!

2. Post your shots at any time during the week.

3. Post a maximum of two shots if you're uploading them to POTN (i.e., attaching them). You can post more than two if you're linking to shots that are not hosted by POTN (i.e.,embedding them), but keep within POTN rules. Also keep within POTN rules about size. A copy of the rules can be found here: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...ad.php?t=51049

That's it! Have fun!

Okay, I'll be the first to post.
I haven't posted in 2 weeks.
It's been so long I almost forget how. :o

We had rain all day today.
It stopped for an hour or so, and, since I was determined to post this week, I rushed out to grab this shot.

Ok, this works out for me as my orchids are beginning to bloom.. I've been meaning to take some shots of the whites and I noticed that they are beginning to decline so here they are:

I have some cactus that are beginning to open, so perhaps I can upload another before the end of the week..

EDIT* Ugh the compression really blows the whites, but you get the idea! :)

I think they're called cyclamen.
Nice houseplants that seem to live forever.

Joayne -- They look good to me too -- subtle texture & complimentary black background.
I'm eagerly awaiting your cactus shots.
The only cactus we have here is prickly pear.
And it's still asleep from the winter!

David -- Nice complementary colors in those tulips. Bet they look great in the yard.

Fishyone -- Wildflowers?
The first one is similar to what we call "Spring Beauties" here in PA.

You show some lovely, delicate flowers.

Well Spring has not really arrived here yet, high of 4 C, so I had to go to the Westmount Conservetory to get these shots.

75D -- Conservatories are always fun to visit. If Westmount is close to you, I'm envious. I'd like to have a conservatory close by.

Joayne -- Is the cactus is in that wonderful backyard of yours that has everything including roadrunners?

joayne
2nd of May 2008 (Fri), 11:14
^^Yup got quite a few of the cactus blooming at this time of year. Don't know where that roadrunner has gotten off to..

It's about a 10 minute drive over the bridge.
It is a great place, usually never crowded and they do a great job of displaying. Thede were taken on a Tuesday morning and I was the only one there.
They have a central area that they change with the seasons and regular displays in other parts.
I like it better than the Botanical Gardens because you don't get the crowds and can focus on your shot without being hasseled.

The last time I went to a botanical garden I learned that tripods were not allowed after a certain hour in the morning (when the garden got crowded). Then only monopods were allowed. Seemed to work well.

Here are some suggestions for a new theme:

3. Doors
4. Reflection

Your suggestions are always welcome, so don't be bashful! ;)
Let's hear what you would like for next week's theme!

BLS,
I was thinking maybe put a link to the POTN WORLDWIDE PHOTO DAY INDEX (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=170603) on the first message of WORLD WIDE PHOTO WEEK (each week) as it will help find old topics and new suggestions ???

For suggestions how about "Sunrise/set" ???

Of your suggestions you list I like 4. Reflection

Finally got some more flowers photos today so while here I figured I would share them :)

Ah, JohnB, periwinkle.
I think that's what I usually call creeping myrtle.
Pretty flower in the Spring and pretty foliage year 'round.

ScottB Glad you sneaked them in!

Do you know their names?
The blue ones look like the blue bells in Kevin's Kentucky Derby shot.

We have blue wild flowers similar to those.
I thought it was still too early for them.
But if you have them blooming in MD, we might have them blooming in southern PA.
I'll have to go look this afternoon.
