This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 800 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 48hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read (Before and After #53).

This is all about having fun so have at it!!!

This game will end on Tuesday, April 29th at 8:00PM Mountain.

Have a go at my nephew's fire truck!

I was going to try and add a house burning in the bg but couldn't find any thing really good so this is what I can up with.

-Found NY skyline on google.
-Pro contrast filter.
-Duplex filter for the skyline ( gives it a slight sepia tone on low opacity)
-low key filter to bring out some details
-added color to the grass, truck, and some buildings ( soft light & 62% opacity)
-added vignette and border.

Hi folks,

Went for an aged sepia look this time:

- Cropped
- Image mode, grayscale, duotone, tritone & fiddled with tritone colours (black, yellow & red) and curves
- Added heavy vignette by new layer, feathered oval selection, adjust opacity and move/transform
- Added new layer of decayed frame, move/transform
- Bit of dodging & burning over firetruck body and grass

I edit in lightroom, so my "process" is going to look a little different

Basic
Exposure: +0.50
Recovery: 60
Fill Light: 100
Blacks: 95
Contrast: +100
Clarity: 100
Vibrance: +100
Saturation: -83
Tone Cure
Highlights: +55
Lights: -77
Darks:+55
Shadows: -100

Since I did a lot of slider adjustment, I am going to post the image and a link to the template that I created. I tried to isolate the reds in the photo.

- evened out the shadows and highlights on the "fire engine" some.
- I didn't like the fence in the background so I added the garage.
- color and contrast changes (basically 300 look with a lomo layer blended @20%)
- added a little noise and a vingnette

Couldn't resist :D

I lost track of what I did halfway through!
Started by marqueing the car and layers onto older photo of mine.
Added layer of a Golf GTI and "moulded" the roof and wheels ;)
Bit of cleaning up....
Colour adjustments
Shadow (burn tool) under car...
Lens flare on windon and for head lights
Spin on wheels and motion blur
Burnt border

Great job everyone!

I'm going to give this one to qtaran111. I'm not crazy about the border, but I really liked the tone you gave this and how you were able to neatly even out the bright spots.

Ocron - the slightly desaturated look really makes the car look so smooth. I always like your color choices.

Justin - great job with the dalmation. It looks so real!

SQuip - what can I say? In a few years, my nephew's gonna wish THIS was his fire truck!

I'd comment more, but the hockey game's on!

I'm looking forward to the next one, qtaran111!

Congrats qtaran!

Elizabeth, that is enormously cute :-). I liked everybody's, so I can imagine it must've been hard to choose! Ocron, wow! It looks just like a photorealism artwork!

Yay! I'm glad the dodging/burning paid off.

Well done everyone, I thought they all looked great.

Anyway, the next one is up: Before & After #53 (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?p=5432376#post5432376)
