anyone tried the Aquapac or the Ewa Marine case or similar style cases for underwater photography? Would be fun but the real housing can be a fortune!

Can also prevent you from losing a camera. Things like this there's no reason to go cheap on really. Sometimes they work, heck I spent $10 on two reusable underwater film cameras but never the less, it was film, big deal.

Either pickup a P&S camera, or buy a true hardcase underwater housing for your SLR (which even then can sometimes fail).

I have heard way to many horror stories with the bag versions to ever put a a $500 + camera in one underwater.

i was kinda in the same situation...i had a destination wedding in the bahamas and i wasn't sure what to do. after doing a lot of research on scubba forums i ended up getting a canon A570IS and canon housing.

I saw some other's photos w/ this setup and was very impressed...mine however, were not quite as impressive.

anyways, i have not tried those you mentioed, was way too worried about loosing my gear to the sea and all it has to offer.

What are you going to be using it for? Everybody bashes the Ewa marines soft housings but how many have actually used one? If all you're going to be doing is taking swimming and snorkeling shots it will be fine. Just remember that it's not a surfing housing meant to take a beating in the impact zone.

I used an Ewa soft housing last summer all the time, way easier and cheaper than a true hard housing.

My intention is for some 'Trash the Dress" underwater shots, bride and groom jumping in the pool, splashing in the waves, that's about it. I think the ewa marine soft housing would work fine but I might consider instead getting a good point and shoot for this so I don't worry about the huge lens. I have taken some spectacular shots with a ps camera.

thanks for the tips

if anyone else has experience with the above, I would love more feedback!

One of my friends had an Ewa and a few other bag type housings. I agree if you are just doing some light snorkeling/protecting from splashes it should work fine.

All the ones my friend had and used leaked in some form or another when diving.
