580 EX II Auto Zoom

Can the auto zoom on the 580EX II be used in any of the modes other than just the green auto box mode? Can get the zoom to work in manual mode using the other settings (Av, Tv or P) but shouldn't it also do auto in all modes?

Tried everything I could think of doing while reading the manual and nothing worked for me.

OK. When you set flash to auto zoom, camera to Av, change the zoom on the lens, what does the zoom mark on the flash indicate?

It needs to be pointed straight forward, with the wide-angle panel pushed all the way in.

After switching the camera to one of the creative modes, press the zoom button on the flash and rotate the dial counterclockwise until the "M" next to the word "zoom" disappears.

There is a "M" in front of the word "zoom".

That worked, pushed and released zoom button, turned dial counter clockwise and then pressed the cameras' shutter release half way down (found that by accident) to accept change. It's working now, I feel so much better about the flash (and myself) now.

Not sure why I couldn't get it to work from reading the manual, just glad this forum is here to help.
