View Full Version : A quick question about using Sigma Lens with a DRebel

Hi there
I have a quick question. I was trying a Sigma 28-70mm F2.8-4 UC lens in my Digital Rebel (with Hack) and the camera kept displaying "Err 99" in the screen. The guy that was using it had it in a 10D without a problem.
I did several searches in the internet (and this forum) but I couldn't find a reason why this lens would not work in my camera.
So the question is very simple... should this lens work in the Digital Rebel? I found a "compatibility chart" at sigma:
http://www.sigmaphoto.com/html/lenschart.htm
But I couldn't understand it :?
Any ideas? suggestions? comments?
Thanks everybody!
Leo.

Some older Sigma lenses have to be re-chipped by Sigma to work with the Canon digital slrs. I was able to send one back and they re-chipped it for free and I had it back in about a week.
If the lens is not one that they still sell, I don't think that they will fix it.

It won't hurt to drop Sigma customer service an email. They were able to rechip an older 300mm of mine a couple of months ago, even though the lense was not in production any more. It just depends on whether or not they have the chips needed for that lens. If they have them, they'll do it for free. You're just out the cost of shipping it to them.

Ok, I'll answer my own question...
I just called customer service at Sigma and they told me that this lens was discontinued sometime ago and Sigma cannot do anything to make it work in the Digital Rebel.

that's quite a weird answer. Ask them if you can send it in to be rechipped. I had to have a 70-210 UC II lens rechipped to work with dSLRs.

I thought it was weird too, but they said that the lens was discontinued for more than 4 years and they didn't have the parts to "rechipped" it.

What I find a bit strange here is that you said the owner is using it on a 10D.
Did you actually see this or do you only have his word for it  ?
Best regards,
Andy

Hi Andy, how are you?
Well, I didn't actually saw him using the lens with his 10D (so, I only have his word). But I guess it was a rocky mistake from my side since I thought all Sigma lenses for Canon will fit my DRebel
