Not sure that's how most of mine ended up, part of the car in focus (front tires) and the rest blurry..

Tv mode and honestly I'm not sure on the focus point.. looks like the front tires ! Grrr.. these cars only are at the track occasionally but I'd love any pointers so I can get some good shots of them!

yea ive found the midgets hard to shoot too, most of the time i use center point focusing or all point focusing and its always in manual mode. the ss varries as well as my f. stop is arround the 4 mark if I had 2.8 I would use that...

here are a few of mine

umm for the most part my settings are ISO 200-800 depending on the time of the night.... f stop around 4 ish and ss 60-200 and my flash about 1/2 power.... I should use it at full but i dont like the recycle time on it at full

Those are great photos Brandon and thanks for the pointers. I'm going to try those settings next time the cars come to our track.

Brandon have you tried a Quantum Turbo? I had very little trouble with recycle time. I now use a Norman but use the other as a back-up.

Manual settings are the way to go. I have used auto a couple of times but that was only in the daytime with plenty of sunshine. Once the flash goes on the auto settings are of no use.

nope i havent yet but i am thinking about getting one.... I know a couple of guys who use one and it cuts the recycle time alot.... for the most part the time on the 580 is really good but I like to use the 1/2 setting on it just incase theres a flip or something then it will pop off 2 or 3 shots before recycling. and the light it puts out at that setting is pretty good at the track i shoot at most of the time
