For my 40D and what is my cheapest option to go off shoe? The camera store wanting over a $130 for some cord. That is too much for me right now to spend. The 580 was a gift.

A long sync cord with male PC connector at both ends. Also for pratical off camera lighting, you might need a lightstand and one of those umbrella brackets for adjusting flash height and angle.
